Dates still open for discussion. Tentatively scheduled for the first week in August.
Any takers?
Here's what Bobcat posted over at Max-Suz:
Frankly, the last two years the PNW Banditfest has been a festival of two. Well, that's not exactly true; Gordo and Michelle joined us two years ago for a portion of the trip through Hell's Canyon. But it's mostly just been Paul and I. After we get back and post pictures, everybody says "There is no way I'm missing this next year, blah, blah, blah." Now I'm not namin' any names (Freddy, Mike, Scott, Ed, etc. etc.), but I think we need a better showing this year. The lack of turnout is embarassing when you see these east coast guys and their 24 page threads for trips that are 6 months away. They're like a bunch of women planning a baby shower.
Here is the preliminary planned route: A giant loop through WA, ID, MT, WY. Possibly extended into NW CO and NE UT. Then back through ID, OR, and WA.
Highlights include the Spiral Highway into Lewiston, Lolo Pass through ID and MT, some kickass mountain passes in Western MT and WY, and I've heard great things about NW CO.
Here's a pic from two years ago at the start of Lolo:

Now doesn't that look like fun? Who needs the Dragon and its 14 turns in 365 miles? And here is a highly technical and detailed map of the route that I had my kid draw (you get the general idea):

Tentative date is the first week of August, but that can be changed if people can't make it. Mark your calendars, bizatches!
Edit: I should add that we like to cover a little ground each day--normally 400-500 miles. Nothing crazy. We also stay in cheap motels--the cheaper the better. The best ones are the one story jobs that you can pull your bike into at night. Normally, we find a motel when we're ready to stop. We have never once failed to find a motel to sleep in. In fact, we've never even had to look hard, because we stay in one-horse little towns away from the tourist traps and close to twisty desolate roads.
I bring all of this up because if you want to ride for 100 miles and then BS for four hours, and then check into the Sheraton at 3 pm, this may not be the ride for you.
I'll throw in another teaser pic... here's a portion of The Spiral Highway:

It twists well to the left and right of this shot. To get a good overall view, go to Google Earth and look just to the north of Lewiston, ID.

u have cabbage o'er there.... nuff said.. i'd go if only there were away to ummmmm tell my boss i need a paid vacation this year.... who knows again maybe after the truck is paid off...
-
Yeah, we got cabbage... especially in the German towns.
I'd rather have the beer & brats though. :beers:
-
Getting the feeling that nobody wants to go because it's too much riding...
Wait a minute...too much riding?!?!? WTF?
-
 Bobcat comes out of lurk mode!
-
Hey, I have 28 posts. That's like .000345 posts per day.
-
 WOW! Two posts in the same week! :congrats:
Even if the second one was post ho'ing... :stickpoke:
I'd never do that. :monkeymoon:
-
Hey hey! Can I tag along?
I won't be going for the whole trip,
I'll just ride in washington for a whole day.
Are you guys gonna start riding on a weekend day?
Hector
-
Hector, of course, you'd be welcome to tag along for as long or short as you like. The date is not set in stone yet. If we keep to our tradition, it'll be a weekday... but if Bobcat can get more than a 4-day kitchen pass this year, we could leave on a weekend day.
-
Awesome!
-
Hey, got SUN yet? Yawl out ridin? not much postin going on! :beers:

Been great weather since last Saturday - except Wednesday's marine layer never burned off, so it stayed cloudy and cold all day.
Today is just fantastic - and I'm stuck @ work... and family plans right afterward.

any news on the bandit fest?
man it's gonna be nice today, i think i'm gonna ride.

i asked my boss to give me august 10 and 11 that's friday and satruday.
but wont' be able to ride til 11.
buddy guy is comming to tualalip amphitheater so i made sure i get that off.
buddy guy fan you know/. hehe
-
Looks like it'll just be me & Matt right now, unless you decide to tag along for a ways. No one else seems to be willing to take the time to do a multi-day tour...
:crybaby: Panzies.
-
what happened to bobcat?
august is just a tough month for me.and may, jusne, july.
it's the companies' busiest.we gotta push the books out for schools.
the boss even made a deal with me. he said in order to get august 10 and 11 off, i have to work a few saturdays haha
damn. haha
-
bobcat/Matt... same thing.
-
I'd like to try and make this, I've never done a multiday ride, just long 1 dayers. Prabably couldn't make the whole thing but maybe a couple days. The roads around the Lewiston area are awesome. I had a Fiat x1/9 in college (the little mid engine two seater) had some great runs down those roads.
-
Tacoman! Looking forward to riding with you.
Like me I'm not joining for the whole ride.
If I can get away with it I'll do a couple days.
Maybe I can join u on the way back to wa.
That's if the ride starts saturday.
In august my shift is from 2pm to 10pmmon to fri. So I don't have much play on this one.
-
I live in the Bremerton area and would love to make this trip, but work won't allow, unfortunatly.
However, I'd be up for shorter day rides around the area.

any update on on the big ride paul?????
-
Not yet.
-
This year's trip has been cancelled due to my upcoming reassignment to France for 6 months and Bobcat will probably be moving this summer.
-
Man, france. That's awesome u get to interact with snooty french men hehe
-
The ones I'll be working with should be a little nicer, since they're gonna want to keep me happy so my company will keep buying products from them.
:beers:
I've dealt with French vendors as well as French customers over the years @ work, and they've never fit the stereotype. OTOH, when I visited France back in 1978, some of the folks did fit... but then I'm sure there are plenty of Americans that fit the stereotype we have when abroad, too.

Now who sounds like a room full of woman planning a baby shower???? Sounds like its getting sketchy or maybe not going to happen! When our fearless leader couldn't make it, over on this side, there were a few that stepped up and filled the void (almost) but made it work. Your glad you did it when and after you do! :boohoo:   :beers:
-
What do u do for work again paul? I forgot.
Sounds like big money to me, man sending u to france. I've only dreamed on goin there.
6 months is a long time. Is the wife gonna tag along too? I meant the b12 hehe just kiddin,
Is the real wife goin too?
-

Now I remember: you brought the Cabbage Patch dolls, foo foo drinks, and subscription to Oprah's book of the month club. Heard it was a good party. You east coast guys really know how to do it.
