Did it again, John....ate the giant breakfast burrito........needed it for strength!
Just got home. Working on some pictures.
Bugs of the biting variety weren't too bad. Lots of smashed bugs on windscreens, though....
Daytimes temps were pretty hot, and it didn't cool off as much at night as it did the last couple of trips. (Maybe 40's max)
For a teaser, here's the top of Ophir pass, from the eastern approach.
This pass runs from US 550 between Ouray and Silverton, over the mountains to a little south of Telluride. It's rated as an 'easy' Jeep trail, but on a bike, it's an eyeopener, at least the long downhill run to the west.
(Below)
HArd to tell here, but the road is fairly narrow, comprised of big to medium rocks, and fairly steep. I figured out the way to get down it on a bike was to cut the ignition switch off, and coast down, using the compression of the engine to slow you. I also realized the 1st gear on my dr650 is WAY too high!
Got interesting......
I did see a lot of lighter dirt bikes thrashing the trails.............
