My 2008 1250 Bandit boiled over last night. It had been fine all day on the highway.
I went for a ride downtown after with no problems. On the way home, just a short 5 km drive it started to boil over. Steam was pouring out but the fan did not come on.
Has this happened to anyone before and any suggestions on where to look? I may just top it up and limp it over to the dealer (just a short ride) as it is under warranty still. Looking for an easy solution first.

Now that I had some time to check it over in daylight it was nothing serious.
The hose clamp on the hose coming from the thermostat had not been tightened during service and had backed off. Hmm, time to talk to my mechanic and slap his hand.

Glad it was simple. :thumb:
Sad it was from inattention to detail by the shop. :duh:

Your fortunate it wasn't worse. I think my dad cursed me as a kid telling me that most dealers and repair shops provide terrible service because that has pretty much been my experience almost without exception and the ones that are honest have been far and few between. I do all my own stuff now because its too expensive to pay for incompetent, uncaring and carefree work.

Over the years, I learned the hard way that I had to verify every mechanic's work after a service event. Disgusted, I started doing things myself, like oil and filter changes, then graduated to chains and sprockets, brakes and tires, tune-ups and carb rebuilds, and finally went to rebuilding entire bikes, starting with an old '72 Yamaha R5C that was in seriously bad shape. My last major rebuild was an '80 Yamaha XS850 that had a damaged transmission (2nd gear blown). Now, I was not trained to work on bikes, but I have become a fair mechanic by doing my own work on my own bikes. There's no better feeling than knowing that the job has been done right. starting with purchasing the appropriate shop manual for the current bike and special tools as they're needed. There's another plus: You get to know your bike very well, so you're able to detect troubles long before they become major problems.

Yeah gyrogearcrunch I plan on getting the manual as soon as I find one. Seems the 1250 one is elusive.
I still have 9 months of warranty so I have to let them twist the wrenches for a bit.

As Pogo (archaic reference, I know!) used to say "Org!".
If you run into a Clymer or Haynes manual for the 1250, please let me know the part number(s). I'd hate to have to shell out for the Suzuki Official Shop Manual, but from the lack of results I got searching the infernal-net for a 1250 manual from one of the aforementioned two publishers, $uzuki may be the only choice.
Warranty work is a wonderful thing. You can keep going back until it's fixed - no charge! Lucky my '06 1250 runs fine, but when it hiccups, I'll have to get the shop manual, it looks like. Went on a milk run today and decided that traffic from the rear was catching up too fast, so I gave her WOT through the gears - until I noticed the speedo saying "90" in a "50" zone! Wholly crap! I wasn't even outa 4th yet! She's healthy, all right! No wonder the cagers got so small in the rear-views so fast. <grin>

Back in the day, pilots died when ground crews did shoddy work. Today, that's still the case, even with cars and motorcycles. It's remarkable what can be accomplished when the wrench-turners have a conscience and a sense of duty. Maybe today it's the drugs and booze?

or maybe the fascist oppressors of the masses (in the words of radio Beijing, a long time ago ) ??.....Nowadays, they're known as money-hungry owners.
"Get 'em in and out ASAP.....and don't worry about the <details> "...... :yikes:
