ok, so whats in a 20000 k service, and can this be done myself to save $$$?

According to my 99 owners manual, its all basic stuff.  replace the fluids & filters, inspect the brake pads, plugs, lines, etc etc.  The only thing that requires any special tools is checking valve clearances.
