K, lets not turn this too much into an oil thread

but I have 6100 Kms on my bike and I'm fairly certain it should be enough to try some Motul 5100 10-40 semi-syth. Am I right or should I wait and put on some more Kms before another oil change?

I put fully-synthetic in at 2000 miles. No problemo.

They say at least 2000-3000 miles range. I did mine around 2000 and no problems. The main thing is that you want to make sure everything is worked in well before you swap. The synthetic is slicker, so it doesn't allow the motor to do a proper break-in.

You're fine by now, for sure.

Some argue synth can be put in immediately on today's engines, but I would prefer to wait until the second oil change unless the machine came from the factory with synth, which Suzuki does not do, AFAIK.

Thanks guys the new oil makes it a little smoother on the shifts and it seems to run slightly cooler.

hey guys
i have 60K+ on my 2001 1200s. i am wondering if i should move to a more viscous oil or stick with the recommended 10w40. also wondering if i go with regular oil, or stay with semi synthetic i have been using

I would go ahead and stay with what you know has worked.
blah blah blah But yes it is true, if it works and it ain't broke don't mess with it! The only thing might be clutch, if it starts slipping get a stronger and/or two springs and plates. The motors made in the last 10 years or so are so much better now than ever! I am an old machine shop guy from the early 70's blown Hemi's ECT.... If you would have told me back then what you can do today on 87 oct. I would have said your nuts!!!
I run Royal Purple Racing 41 in my wheelie bar bike (to the left) I have not done any motor rebuilds in the last 9 years, 4 trans but no motor probs at all. When you need to do a top end on an oil-cooled bike is when you start to get blow-by (oil in the air box) then your cyl. are getting out of round (oval) do a top end and go on.

Using synthetic oil in a new Engine is just fine. GM supplied me with a 2006 Trailblazer which came with Mobil #1 full Synthetic oil. (And recomends this be the oil of choice)

It is an old wives tale according to my friend who is a member of the Petroleum Engineer's association. Synthetic oil will have no detrimental effects in breaking in a new engine, when comparing it to a standard multigrade motor oil.

Synthetic oil is no more "slippery" than a good quality motor oil. Synthetic oil is however much better in the fact that it does not break down as easily as standard oil, due to it's finer & more consistant molecule content.

The majority of people ive spoken to in the uk have advised me to stick with semi synthetic oil and changes at 3-4000 mile intervals.Some clutches dont seem to like fully synthetic.Ive used semi synthetic for the last 10 years on my Bandit and no problems yet!!
