600 Transmission in a 750
« on: March 17, 2008, 08:54:18 AM »
I recently picked up a 97 Katana 750 motor for my 1G 600 Bandit. The 750 motor has no transmission. Will my 600 transmission fit in with no problems?

Thanks,
Mike

This may not help you much, but I had a trans from a 89 GSXR1100, when I built my B12, I tried to use the 89 trans, and it was close, but didn't fit, which gave the indication that the cases were slightly different.
If you can't find someone that knows for sure, you might have to try it and see. :beers:

I'm thinking I might just plop the 750 top end on my 600 instead. I don't know how that 750 was treated but I do know how I treated my 600. I think I'd have a little more confidence in a bottom end that I maintained.

I only need the shaft and all the gears that the sprocket ride on. I cross referenced a few part numbers. The shaft, 4th gear, and the LH bearing all have different PN's between the kat and bandit. I didn't check all of the bushings or washers, just the shaft, gears, and bearings. The ID and OD of the LH bearing is the same size but the depth is less in the katana bearing. I did cross reference the numbers from the katana 750 to the katana 600 and they were both the same. There's a few cheap buys on ebay for kat 600 transmissions. Maybe I'll go this route first.

The only thing I see in using the Kat 750 top end on the B6 to be careful about is you need to use the B6 cam gears. The B6 uses a different cam chain than the GSX 750's (F or R). You can keep the 750 cams, just swap the gears.
