Title: Bandit F1200 plug changes under fairing
Post by: Slider on April 08, 2005, 10:36:45 PM
How do you get at the *&^%$#@ plugs on the faired Bandit 1200.
Like the oil filter, I have always had the dealer do this because they are hard to get at, (never had trouble on prevous nakid bikes).

Do you take the tank off? Any problems here?
When I got the bike the fuel sensor wiring was obviously damaged by the previous owners misrouting, says the dealer.

Taking the fairly off looks like a nightmare.

Thanks, Mike

No problems for me with the tank off. Got to take the handle off the petcock, two bolts, disconnect the fuel feed and play with the vent hose.

I was able to get all 4 plugs with the tool in the kit.  No need to remove the tank.

The fairing looks complex but really is not all that bad once you have done it say.... twice.  The Haynes manual is good about pointing out those pesky hooks and tabs..... take your time, press gently and it comes right off.  There aren't very many fasteners per piece - not a lot of different types to keep track of either.  No - its not fun wrenching but it gets very easy the more you do it.

Well, to be honest, I've never pulled the plugs when I wasn't pulling the valve cover, too... and for the valve cover, if you don't HAVE to take the tank off, it darn sure makes it a helluva lot easier!

using the supplied plug tool it just takes a little wiggling around to get them out.

i haven't found it to be a problem.
