Broken Seat Lock

The lock broke for the helmet lock a few years ago, now the whole unit is broken. I can't get the seat off.  That's where I keep the owner's manual, proof of insurance, tool kit, rags, spare light bulbs & tire repair kit.
 
Any hints?  Do you think a lock smith can get it apart?

Is it the lock itself that broke or the cable?
If the lock is broken you may be able to drill it out to open the seat.

Ron Ayers .com on line illustrated parts list for the bandits. Looks like remove and pull the cable. Most locks have a pin or a clip that hold the tumbler barrel in the housing. A locksmith should be able to match a replacment with the ignition key.

It's a number 30 security torx.  Lucky my neighbor had one.

As soon as took off the fastener, the guts feel out.  Maybe 8-10 parts that seems like the mainspring of a watch.  But that was cool.  I was able to get the cable undone and twist tied to the long tie hook.  Now I can just pull the cable with my hand & open the seat.  There isn't any lock or helmet hook.  The backing plate looks funky.  Serviceable though.

New its like 50 bucks, should be able to get a used one at a cycle yard and have it rekeyed. Type in the part number on a search engine and see where it leads.

Printed the IPB from Ron Ayers. Dude, it doesn't come apart!  It's one assembly.

Yep, $50 and another key.  It works better on a twist tie than it ever did locked.
