hi
i took my bike out on the weekend, its cold up here in the mountains and with in minutes my bike was cooking, it was really hot yet the fan did not come on, I know it does not click on until over 100degrees, so I thought it might be outta coolant, I hadnt checked all summer, so i assumed it was that. i rode into town and the bike was running like shit, gurgling and back firing.
I took the tank off and coolant levels where perfect. the radiator was the hottest part and down along the frame around it. I dont know much about this bike as its new for me and I cant find any specs on the internet about them.
Can some one tell me if these bikes have a water pump or a temperture valve ( not a tempurture light on the dash) but a valve and valve gasket that can be replaced??. Also next to where you fill up the radiator, to the left of the cap was a metal componant that had hoses coming out of it - is this the water pump?? could this be my problem, should i try replacing this ?? could this be stopping the water from circulating through the engine ?? does anyone have any ideas to offer me ??

What kind of bike are you talking about? I know that you aren't talking about a Bandit and you do know that this a a Suzuki Bandit Forum, eh?

this is a forum for bandits, eh (as you put it, eh)!! I certainly hope that you are alone in your thinking, eh. and I can expect more help and information from other informative people other than youself, eh.
What exactly did I say that based your assumption that I did not own a Bandit, was It because I mentioned the radiator, or maybe the temp light or the fan maybe , eh!.. or is your bandit different to everyone elses?? Nothing from what i worte could mean anything other than if i was talking about a aircooled bike, so wake up to yourself..

95% of the bandits still on the road are air/oil cooled 600, 650 1200s. With a few Kat-engined 750s thrown in. A liquid-cooled 400 was available in the west for a few years. It flopped. The 250 never saw these shores.
As such, 95% of the experience here is going to be SACS based. You'll find this forum has a section dedicated to the 250/400...all the posts are over two years old.
I reread your original post several times, each time I came across the "Can someone tell me if these bikes..." part, I kept looking for what bike you're talking about and why it has a radiator? Like Solman, my first assumption was that you accidentally cross-posted this.
I thought Solman rather politely asked to make sure you had not cross-posted, in addition to asking what kind of bike you're talking about.
Your reply to him was asinine.
After 19 years of turning wrenches, I can think of only four things that would cause all the symptoms you're describing...good luck finding them.

Like he said, I have never heard of a Bandit having a water radiator and fan until now. My knowledge mainly rests on B12's(that is Bandit 1200, in case you didn't know). And as for the "eh" thing, that goes back to my parents being Canadian. BTW, I am clever enough to pick up that your comment was rude. I am also clever enough to understand that it is obvious that you are not very observant that someone was trying to help you.

I took my radiator and pump off right after I bought mine, it was just too bulky. :lol:

The 400 section is quite active, if for no other reason than I keep posting there. The 250 section also sees some activity, so try reposting your question over there.
To answer your question, if the 250 is anything like the 400, then yes there is a water pump and there is a tempurature "valve" or what is commonly called a thermostat. This controls whether coolant flows from the engine into the radiator or just keeps recirculating in the engine. I would guess, that since the radiator was hot, that the thermostat was working and allowing flow into the radiator. Most likely your problem is either in the temperature sensor that controls the fan -- that is turns it on when hot and off when cool, or the problem is in the fan motor itself. perhaps the fan motor has failed. That's where I'd look.
maybe a moderator can move this thread to a more appropriate section of the forum?

well this troll sure is annoying. I dearly regret providing some helpful information.
Make sure when you put the thermostat back in that the little hole in the edge points DOWN. the service manual is wrong about this. It must point DOWN. It can be difficult to get in there, but keep trying.

dude there was nothing bitchy in solman's post. your original post lacked vital information others needed to help you. and he apparently didn't know that the smaller B's were water cooled. therefore he thought you were misguided in your posting and attempted point it out. YOU are the one who got offensive. YOU then went on to mock him repeatedly and even went so far as to claim you were intentionally pissing people off in order to get a response to your ill-worded, insufficiently informed question. Now you are complaining that we are offended by your childish, and apparently intentionally provocative behavior. I will say Travellukie, if you'd spent 5 minutes looking around here, you'd realize that outside of the 250/400 forums, 90% or so of the folks here are on the bigger Bandits which are completely different machines AND that there actually ARE 250 and 400 forums.

If you're still looking for an answer, try posting this in the 250/400 section - or at least give some more info on the bike you ride. The 250/400 share a lot in common with each other, but not so much with the air/oil cooled 600/650/750/1200 bikes.
As for the rest of you, you could have cut the guy a little slack instead of whipping a dead horse.
