Chain Adjustment?
« on: March 08, 2006, 01:10:41 PM »
I only have this Haynes Manual, and its very vague on all topics. Unfortunately I don't have the owners manual.

I was wondering what the slack should be on my 2000 Bandit 1200S. I'm used to measuring between the middle of both chains on my other bike, and was curious what the chain slack should be?

Also I had trouble loosening the axel bolt yesterday, I pulled the pin then tried to loosen the nut, that is all it takes right??

Yup, that's all it takes.

My copy of the Haynes manual lists the chain slack requirements in Section 1 Specifications (page 1-2). 20-30mm (25-35mm for 600's). It gives the proceedure for measurement on page 1-7.

Basically, with the bike on the sidestand, top run slack free, measure slack at the mid point on the bottom run.

Yea I didn't quite understand their measurement process.

So I measure the bottom of the chain, to the Axel bolt to equal 20-30mm? And again on the top end??

My last bike I measured middle of the chain on the bottom, to middle of chain on the top.

Yup, that bottom graphic's the ticket. The bottom run, mid-way between the two sprockets, the vertical slack should be 20-30mm.
