Title: does not turn over

new 1200 bandit does not turn over.  light and gauges come on, battery strong trying to turn her over, followed manual starting procedures, still will not turn over

wow need more info man. Not turn over?! You mean it doesn't fire, starter doesn't turn, no juice at all when hitting the start button?

Thanks for reply, when press button starter works and battery is strong but will not start.

Is the starter turning, but not the engine?

If so, the starter clutch bolt has come loose.

It's located behind the left crank end engine cover.
Use a dab of loctite on it and torque per the service manual.
If you don't have a manual, you can d/l one from the Members Area.

when i dropped my bikecouple years ago, i've always had a problem starting my bike. i dropped it on the left side, thus the left handle hit and clutch lever. then the bike just wouldn't start when i do my regular starting procedures. turn on the red button on the right handle bar, pull the on the clutch lever, press the start button.
then i finally figured it out. i messed up my clutch lever it seemed that my clutch lever doesn't pull the cable enough to makeit start. so now everytime i pull on the cluctch lever i have to really press it with the handle bar and pull it upwards at the same time.

oh by the way that's if your doin the starting the bike and you hear no sound. check out your clutch system. check your clutch cable maybe its not pulling enough or like paul said maybe the clutch bolt came loose hehe

Same thing happened to mine last summer -- engine was locked and you could not even turn it over with the back wheel and the plugs out .  It was the nut on the starter clutch -- it bound up everything on the left side of the motor - check the cover on the inside, mine got milled a little bit (change the oil and filter).  You will need to pull the left side cover to check.  It is a quick check and fix though, if you are very careful you will not even need a new gasket.
