ok i was gettin on the bike pretty hard the other day now at idle i can hear a lower knocking till about 2000-2500 rpms. i canged the plugs (old ones where pretty blackend) and cleaned the carbs out. its still there but not as loud as before....... any idea????? im thinking early detonation? is this something you would say or rule out??? thanks every one!
:thanks: :bouncy:

If you think it's detonation or pre-ignition, try bumping up a grade in gas and see if it goes away.
If the plugs were carboned up bad, you could have enough buildup in the combustion chamber to cause pre-ignition from glowing carbon.

I seriously doubt that you hurt the engine, so long as it was a well-maintained bike, not long-in-the-tooth on mileage and she was full on oil.
I'd just ride it...

Do you do a lot of short trips? I'm with Red on the carbon thing, I've had it happen with cars. Get out for a long ride to burn the stuff away.

I concur. A long high speed highway ride is almost as good as a tuneup. Just to be safe when it's in the full summer heat I like to go to mid grade gas(89) as I live in the city and there is lots of stop and go traffic. Give it a tankfull and see if it's good. I wouldn't bother with premium(91+) it's a waste untill you've put some high compression pistons in there. I try to always go for at least half an hour of highway on the weekends just to get the crap out of the engine from a weeks worth of city driving.
