Title: Fairing BUZZ @ 4000
Post by: Silverstreak on May 09, 2005, 10:59:48 PM
Is it a standard feature on the newer Bandits for the front fairing to make a loud and annoying buzz as you pass through 4000 rpms?

What can be done aout it?

Not uncommon... they don't all do it, and the ones that do, don't have it originate from the same place(s). What you need to do is try to find the offending places and put a little foam tape (weatherstripping works well) between the pieces that rattle. Some folks have gone the route of just treating all the seams between pieces just to be sure they got them all.

A telltale clue to help you find the bad spots is to look for a little "extra" dust along a seam from where the two pieces vibrate against each other.

Also, be sure all your fairing mount points are nice and tight. I've seen two nearly new B12's that had loose bolts where the fairing bracket mates to the steering yoke.

have the same problem with mine! try some thin rubber strips around the edge of the wind screen so it doesn`t  touch any part of the fairing? it help a good bit on mine.   or just go passed 4k as fast as possible

my k3 b12 did this from the day i picked it up and it drove me crazy.i pulled apart the complete fairing including the bottom one and took a week after work to reassemble it.ipoked and pushed at every part of it and any part that didn't have a rubber mount or rubber washer i made one out of an old tyre tube so there is no fibreglass on to metal anywhere.i even removed the clear screen on top of fairing as that was vibrating whenever it felt like it and i used double sided tape or foam to seal  where the two pieces touched.i'm now a HAPPY CHAPPY

   CHEERS    ....SLO COACH

I added a piece of bicycle inner-tube between the inner and outer fairing last weekend, it seems to have helped quite a bit.

I was just out riding this aft and I reached out and grabbed the windshield at the buzz moment. It totally went away. I'm putting a tour windshield in later in the week so I'll  take care when I put the new one in.

I just installed my new touring windshield. I put a little silicone on the munting points. I took it out for a test spin and the buzz in the fairing is gone.

Hi I'm new to the board and live in south Ga. I have a 2002 600S and love the bike. I also have a buzz in the wind screen and started to put some weather striping betwwen the fairing and screen. Does the complete assembly come off or can you just take the part of the fairing that the screen is attached loose?

Thanks. The info saves me from screwing up. What is the difference on a 600S and the 600X2? Thanks again

The 600X2 is a 1200. The fairing on the B12 and B6 is the same except for colors and decals.

I tightened all the fairing fasteners I could see and still had the 4000 rpm buzz. I pulled back the rubber covers to the mirrors to find 3 out of 4 of the allen bolts loose (2 finger tight). Tightening these 4 up with locktite solved 90% of the buzz on my B12.
