am i safe to use the shaved M8 standard washer on the left
in place of the warped copper crush washer on the right
for the locking bolt on the damper of my front fork?
i tried to look up a washer FAQ on the internet
i remember from shop class the instructors being very
strict about using the proper washers, but i'm sick of going
to dealers to get special washers.
If its safe to use a rotary tool and shave standard washers?
i'd like be able to use them instead. I''ll be using thread lock
on the bolt with this washer.

If thats what I think it is,(on the bottom of the fork tube) then no. Use another copper washer, and you DO NOT want to use loc-tite on that bolt! Just use a dab of silicone on that or you will have trouble the next time you try to take it apart. It takes a small impact to loosen it as it is.

You are right that is the bottom bolt on a KYB 41C fork.
My suzuki manual says use a new gasket and apply thread lock "1342" to the damper bolt. But I think you are right about silicone instead. I don't want it to leak, but i also want to be able to remove it again in the future.
I guess I have to go find a gasket at a parts store.

the b400 has a Kayaba 41 fork conventional (right side up)
17mm outer and 11mm inner damper bolt copper crush washer/gasket
what other suzukis and motorcycles in general have this fork?
are the damper rod, bolt and washer the same for all bikes
with this same kayaba 41mm fork or is the bottom of the fork
always different on all bikes?
what size/style fork does the 600 & 1200 bandit use?
is there a website that shows sister fork information?

The B6 uses a 41mm damper rod fork
The B12 uses a 43mm cartidge fork
If you can come up with the p/n of the B4 stuff you can compare them to the numbers the B6 and Katana 600 & 750 which also use 41mm damper rod forks on the Ron Ayers online parts catalogs.

:thanks:
smooth & red
Anyone else know of anyother sister bikes
that share the Kabaya fork?
Who shares the cartridge 43mm forks of the B12?
is it the same on the V-Strom?
On GS500, B600 & B400
Kabaya 41 fork conventional (right side up)
damper bolt 51147-16510
damper crush washer/gasket 51148-41310
OIL LOCK PIECE 51195-06C00 (except) GS500
Top Cap 51351-10D00 but the cap O-rings are different?
cap & o-ring completely different on GS500
so gives these part #s @ the parts counter
and if they don't have them ask them to
try the other suzuki bikes
