Author Topic: Fuel overflowing from tank drain tube (Read 2348 times)

Hi,

I took my bandit 1200 out of storage last month so I could adjust the valves. When I took out the tank, I noticed the fuel tank drain pipe was kinked and some water+rust came out of it. I didnt think it was a big deal. When i top the tank with fuel , gas starts pouring out from the drain tube as soon as I reach 2.5 gallons. I feel the water corroded the drain tube inside the tank. Is there any way I can fix it? I thought of passing a copper tube through the exisiting one but I guess the drain tube snakes its way through the tank so its hard. Please help!!!!

You may be able to fix it by going in thru the bottom of the tank. You can remove the fuel level sensor plate on the bottom and see if that is any help.

Do you think I can get any tools in there to cut out the existing tube? or should I just try to dab the holes on the pipe with some corrosion resistant epoxy? I have no idea what the inside of the tank looks like especially the area where the drain pipe snakes through the tank. Im going to try to stick a webcam in there with a flashlight.

I haven't had to open my tank up, so I can't say. I know others have managed fixes through there though. I guess it'll depend on how big your hands are and how effectively you can work in there with one hand.

Thanks for the help!! Im going to see If I can get my paws in there. Worst case scenario: I'll just put a tap on the overflow pipe and open it whenever it rains! LOL
