Title: gas tank rust

i have a 1996 b 600 and the top of the gas tank filler has a little rust along the top edge. is there any way to take care of it before it gets worse. i allways store it full but its so hi i cant filll it that much. thanks

Check with a Yamaha dealer.  They make an easy to use derusting solution that's not too espensive at about $11, at least locally.

I've read an evaluation somewhere that said it worked well and left a rest resistant coating.  

This is NOT to be confused with Kreem, a tank lining chemical system that uses three different liquids to clean, dry and coat the tank internal surfaces.

If it's just surface rust around the edge of the filler cap, I don't know that it's worth all the trouble. It's not going to hurt anything anytime soon.

I'd just check the gasket on the cap and replace it, if needed. Treat the rust that's there with a coating of WD40 or the like from time to time to keep it from getting worse and live with it.

Pep Boys and others carry Extend, It neutralizes rust by removing one of the three components. Paint a little of that on it.

I know Ospho works, you can get a small bottle (1 Quart) for $10...
It's made for the marine industry to deal with rust.
