my gps is 6 volt, when I got the Bandit, it had a 12 V to 6 V transformer mounted under the plastic.

Bholland,thanks but is that because the lights and stuff are 6volt? I think that my gps has a step down in the power cable that plugs into the 12volt outlet.

Ok, you would need to fuse it, if you want to keep it for a long time, Safe than sorry! Do you know what the power is in watts that it uses? if so you can work out the Amps.

V = 12, Watts = 20, would be 0.6Amps. Volts divid by watts = Amps!

Then fit an Amp to suit!

It wouldn't need an appreciably larger fuse than, the fuse that is actually in the lighter  adapter itself.
  Chances are, the fuse in the lighter adapter is 1-2 amps.  The GPS units don't draw a heck of a lot of amps.

  You might consider mounting a cigarette lighter  socket somehwere, and powering it off of that.

thanks guys, feel somewhat like an idiot. I wire these things in boats all the time. Don`t  know  why I thought it would be different on my bike? Oh, the manual that comes with it tells exactly how to do it and fuse size.
