hey guys,
i've had my 2001 B6 since april, and i think it's time for an oil change (4000 miles). The shops around here are crazy busy, so i don't wanna bother them with a simple oil change. i just have a few questions.
1. should the oil filter be changed everytime the oil is?
2. I read something about the bolt on the botton needs a new washer(?) everytime. is this really necessary, and if so, where would i get one?
I imagine it to be the simplest of tasks, but i wanna be prepared so i don't F up my new toy. thanks!

I personally don't change ANY oil without changing the filter. LIfe of hte engine, yada-yada.
As far as the washer goes: Yes, they recommend that you change out hte washer, but I haven't yet . . . and I've got 23,000+ miles, so that's . . . about 10 oil changes with no problems from that washer.

do you reccommend any specific oil filter?

I use Suzuki OEM filters. I get them at the dealership. I'm sure I get ripped, and I'm sure that someone will be along shortly with a more affordable alternative.

Save yourself some grief and buy a filter wrench. You can buy this at most dealers and cycle stores. Suz pretty much uses the same filter on all their bikes. I have found good prices on the emgo filters and you can get them in chrome as well for a little extra bling!

+1 here..... gives me a reason to keep in touch with the parts guys there just in case you need something important.

The book says the filter should be changed every other time, but I'm another one of those who never changes the oil without changing the filter.
I'm at 38K miles with the original drain plug washer myself.
Nothing wrong with the OEM filter.
STP, Purolator, Perf-Form, K&N and most any other you find are fine...
...except Fram, which is junk.

I just get Nylon M14 drain plug gaskets from checkers.
They're like $2 and I use 'em on my truck and wife's car too...
