Installed some new stuff!
« on: March 26, 2005, 01:37:03 AM »
I've been doing a little wrenching lately and here is a list of what was accomplished:

    Installed new fair stay
    replaced tach light bulb
    Installed new ZG windscreen
    Installed HS risers
    Replaced fluid/bled brakes and clutch
    Installed new Handle bar clamp
    Installed new Fork Brace
    Installed Fenda extenda
    Replaced front tire

Took her for a spin and man, I really like the new riding position and wind protection.  The risers, ZG sporttourning screen and corbin work very well in combination with each other on the 1G bike.  Also, the bar clamp and fork brace made a bigger difference than I expected as far as front end stability and firmness.  I also think the addition of the new wind screen noticeably improved my gas mileage (more on that one later).  That was something that I didn't expect either.

Man, I really love modifying these bikes.... I think I'm "almost there" now  :boohoo:

I'll get photos of this new stuff taken soon and get it up on my web site later in the week.  That way you guys/gals can see what it looks like.

I just got some new progressive front springs in the mail. I'm thinking of starting with 10w and then later I may try a little thicker. I know nothing about fork oil, what brands are good or bad and how much should I buy?
Is there anything other then some PVC pipe that I should think about buying to do this job?

I've got progressive springs in mine and they really make a huge difference.  Overall, they make the front end much firmer and better in the corners.  However, if I was exclusively a highway man I think the stock set up would be fine.

I'm not sure what weight oil I have in mine as the previous owner changed out the springs.

Race Tec springs and Gold Valves in the front end
DP HH++ Brake Pads

It most defnatly runs and handles as good as it looks.

Just installed the Holeshot 17" can on my 02 600S. Dropped it off at the dealer to have the carbs done. I chickened out. Man does it sound sweet. Was thinking 14" or 17". Dale at Holeshot steered me clear of the 14" comp can and I am glad. The 17 is subtle at idle and part throttle but really comes to life when you crack it open. I'm not sure that I felt much of anything from the can by itself but it sure sounds great. Can't wait to give it a good rip after the jet kit and advancer are in. Also picked up a Tourmaster Sport tailbag today. Looks like it'll be a nice addition as well.

Progressive says go with stock oil weight or go up by only 5. So 10w or stiffer ride with the 15w.

dsartwell1, did you get a comp1 or comp2 ? And what did he say about the 14" to steer you to the 17" ? Was it just to loud or is there more to it?

Best thing is probably to talk to him yourself
« Reply #8 on: March 27, 2005, 08:07:35 AM »
When you call Holeshot you can talk to Dale directly with any questions that you have. His advice to me was to stay away from the 14 comp can. Not sure if it was one or two.He said on a 600cc bike the 14" is just too loud. Apparently the smaller engine is a different pitch or something. Anyhow he said that the 14" is extremely loud and would probably get irritating real quick. I figuired he builds the stuff so he ought to know. I'm pretty sure I made the right choice for me. I use my Bandit for a 20 mile one way commute and sometimes carry a passenger so the extra noise would probably not worked for me. Also Dale said there is no performance advantage to the 14". Just noise. Hope that helped you. BTW I got the polished aluminum can and it looks great!! My bike is an 02 600S in the black color whatever they call it.

14-inch can...

I have a Holeshot 14-inch comp 1 can and I have only had people say good things about the sound.  Such as, "That thing really sounded great when you passed me", and "Wow, I heard you coming two streets away".....good things.....

Dale didn't recommend the 14 for my 600. Maybe the bigger engine has a different tone to it or because on a 1200 you'll cruise at a lower rpm. I'm sure it sounds great when you're tearing through some twistys

Thanks man!

You have a 2G, so the ZG screen for your bike would look a bit different.

Yeah, a bit different but I still like it nevertheless......especially the dark tint....Sorry about your friend.  I lost a good friend, about a year ago, to an unforgiving ultralight that he had been pushing harder and harder until something broke one fine spring morning.... :beers:
