Don't know. I would think that the air isn't going to pass through the air filter any faster, therefore no change in performance.
-
ive heard that the tank stand offs are really popular with the SV crowd. It evidently allows more and cooler air reach the airbox. Ive seen it done to quite a few of them..
surely wont hurt anything IMO
-
Sounds bogus to me. But who knows.
-
$35!
Surely you could rig up something to try the idea out first.
-
Makes some sense - it is not a ram air system, but it would flow cooler air. Cooler air is denser & a denser charge is good.
-
This thread has had me thinking about how to cool air before it goes into the carbs.
When I re-read this thread I noticed texasbandit mentioned ramair. Id not come accross this before but on a ramair webpage it says a
10c temp decrease = about 1% HP increase.
That is to say
80 hp @ 20c
81.6 hp @ 10c
This 10c/+1%HP thing is a starting point. How the bandits engine would compare to this figure who knows. There is no way a tank riser would make a 10c difference but if its a common trick SV riders use then a bike engine must be more sensitive to temp changes. I must admit I have occasionally thought that my bike has been going quicker when it suddenly rains (ie cooler air)
Does anybody know the sorts of volume of air the bandit engine consumes in a quantity of time. Surely this is stuff that gets measured on a dyno?
-
I think your math is a little off.
1% of 80 is 0.8
-
:) your right....
81.6hp is for 0'c

yes the sv guys do it and have been busted racing like this , i have my gsxr 400 tank lifted a skoosh. rig up your own deal its not hard dont make some other (velcro, ziptie guy rich)lmao
