Neutral has disappeared..! Dunce pleads for help... ;)
« on: May 21, 2006, 03:56:13 AM »
Hi... I have a 1991 gsf 400, the sort with twin disks on the front.

Gradually over the last month, it's been harder to get the sensor to recognise that the bike is in neutral: the light doesn't come on, and dropping the side stand kills the engine. It runs ok in general (just had a whole heap of work done on it by mechanics) although to be honest, neutral does not feel very 'definate', always... there is a tiny bit of play if that makes any sense at all..!

This makes it hard to warm the bike up properly, as I would have to sit on it to keep it upright..!

Has anyone got any suggestions on what this might be?
Thanks heaps in advance...

Thanks, Daytona- I thought that might be a possibility, but because of there being (seemingly) a couple of 'sticking points' on either side if neutral (as in, feels like going into neutral, but isn't quite..?), I thought it might be something more serious!

It has to be looked at by the mechanics tomorrow for another issue, and I'll mention the switch/detent possibility.. many, many thanks.

Oh, and not sure what to search on the site for: no matches for the terms I was using, which isn't entirely surprising, since I am a little dim after all. Did find an el cheapo centre stand, though- will order one from there once  the bike shop have had their pound of flesh... *sigh*
(I hate the previous owner... they removed the centre stand. Duh.)
So many thanks for the link..!
