Title: Non-mechanic asking fork question

A couple of months ago I bought a pair of Progressive fork springs to try.  Been lazy about getting them in.  Can I just unscrew the tops of the fork legs and lift out the old springs, then drop in the new ones without doing anything else?

Or is this more complicated than that?  I imagine it is.  :sad:

you will have to find a way to support the front of the bike. I use a come-along, suspended from a hook in my garage, and pick the front up just a little.

You can do it that way (just support the front like BHolland sez), but you really should consider putting new fork oil in it at this time, too, since it's probably 5 years old anyway.

If you take the forks off the bike, dealerships usually aren't too bad doing the work for you.  Take the forks back to the service dept and talk to the service mgr.  Ask him nicely what he might charge to swap the springs for you and add some oil.  They'll usually give you a deal.

I've heard of a little mod for Progressive springs that you do when you install them that supposedly makes them 2x better.

I'll see if I can find it and post if for you.
