Running Issue

Hey guys.
Question. W.T.F.??
Put the key in the ignition, pull on choke, it starts. Warm it up for about 5-8 minutes, push choke lever off, stalls. It won't even let me throttle it without the choke on. It's got fresh gas. Now what? ('06 650 by the way)

Fuel injected or carbs? With a choke lever it sounds like carbs. If so your idle circuits in the carbs are blocked up, clean em out.
If it is fuel injected they need cleaning too from time to time, remove them and get them ultrasonically cleaned, you will need injector seal kits.

Yeah, she's carb'd. I'm gonna clean out the carbs today and see what happens.

Hey Petey

I expect your air cooled '06 is just jetted very lean and needs more warm up time than you expect. An adjustment to the air screws would likely help. This would mean removing the carbs and drilling out the air screw plugs, then start by setting them at 2-3/4 turns out.

But if you've got the carbs out that far, you might want to consider a jet kit, or at least a shim under the needles and possibly one size larger main jet. Fuel mileage will go down a little, but you'll pick up more HP and better driveability.

Warming up 5 to 8 minutes could be loading of the engine and fouling the plugs. Try slowly closing the chock after a minute or two. Sometimes I have found that 1/2 chock is need for up to a couple of minutes extra, but I am usually riding easily to finish warming up the bike.

Thanks guys for all the help but.....I got pissed off and just had the dealer pick it up and fix it. I've gotta say though, being that this is my 7th or 8th bike I've owned, I've never had problems with any of them until I bought this thing. I'm already thinking about getting rid of it!  :deadhorse:

The problem buying used is you never know how it was treated before.  It probably just needs some proper TLC and proper storage maintenance come year end.

HAHA...here's the funniest part Buckshot! The Bandit is the first bike I've bought BRAND NEW!! All of the other bike's I've owned were used ones! :banghead:
