Title: Spring rate on stock '02 1200???
Post by: scooter69 on December 12, 2005, 03:39:01 PM
Would anyone be able to tell me the stock spring rate on an '02 1200?

I was thinking about putting on clip-ons and was told that I would need to lower the tree 1.5" to clamp onto w/o having a fairing clearance prob.

Here's the issue.

I have a 35mm jack-up in the rear...so with a 1.5" drop in the front and a 1.5" raise in the rear....is this too much angle to prevent nose dive? Or can I simply change the springs inside the forks and have no worries???

I don't know what the rates are for either the front or rear springs, but a fork spring and rear shock upgrade would be good, no matter what.

With a 1.5" drop up front and a 1.5" lift in the back, I'd be more worried about the possibilities of nervous handling and tankslappers. Folks usually do one or the other, not both.

I agree!  I would be scared to ride a bike that is set up like that.

That's exactly what I was thinking......

Is there a set clip-ons that I can attach w/o having to lower the triple tree?

What about a simple set of no-rise "drag" bars?

Here's (lurker) Bobcat's 2G B12 with black drag bars:

They're about as low as you can go with the fairing still in place. And they only cost ~$20-30. (They're $21.95 at one of my local shops.)

That's a nice bike.....

Do you have another pic showing more of the bars.....maybe someone on the bike showing the stance?

Looks like Washington or Banff.......

That's the best pic of the bars I have of his bike that I could find, but feel free to brouse some of my pics here, (http://photobucket.com/albums/d35/paulweit/2005%20Bike%20trip/?start=0) just in case I missed something, or if there's an angle you like better.

The only pic I have of him riding where you can see any posture is this one:

Not sure just how tall he is, but he's taller than I am, and I'm 5' 12"

Why not  :?:
You'll just have a more agressive stance, since you're shorter than he is.  :stickpoke:

I haven't riden his B12, but he had the same bars on his old naked 1G B6, and I rode that and it wasn't too bad. I think I still prefer the more upright position myself though.
