Title: Starting In Gear

I have a 2000,  B600S and I sometimes have trouble starting when I have the bike in gear.  It starts fine in nuetral without the clutch.  When I put her in gear and pull in the clutch to start, I get nothing.  It does not happen all of the time.  Also when it does start in gear, I feel a load on the motor (it tries to pull forward like I am letting the clutch out).

Can anyone tell me if there is some kind of switch that is malfunctioning or is my clutch lever not adjusted correctly.

sounds like your clutch might be out of adjustment

You shouldn't feel any clutch drag. Sounds like an adjustmant is required. As for the no start, mine is equipped with a safety kill switch on the side stand. I occasionally go to start off with the stand down and it immediately kills the engine. A somewhat annoying but practical switch. If that switch is occasionally shorting, you may have the occasional no start. Hope this helps.

When the bike is cold the oil will cause the clutch to drag a little.

When the bike does not start, is it at least kicking over or is it completely unresponsive to the starter switch?

If it's unresponsive, a grounded kick stand switch would be on my top-of-the-pops.

In addition to the sidestand switch mentioned above, you may be suffering an intermittent problem with the switch on the clutch lever.

If the engine pulls with the clutch in and the oil is warm, it's time to adjust the clutch... but the engine should still start (cold or warm), as the starter circuit doesn't monitor the clutch adjustment, just when the lever is pulled in.

I have a 2K B6 as well. When I start in gear I sometimes get a bit of a pull even if the clutch is in. But it usually starts fine.
