1999 Bandit 250

Done a few searches to try and find a diagnosis for a problem I'm having.

At low revs (below 3k) my engine is making a stuttering noise (as if it were low on fuel) and at take off is low on power. At higher revs it isn't always a problem, but sometimes will suddenly take effect around 8,000 rpm.

Where my case differs from others is this problem only came to light after a slight brain-lapse and I took the revs right to the red-line (16,500) for a period of about 5 seconds. My initial thought is that it had dropped to three cylinders (this could still be the case), but does anyone know of any other causes for this. Could my over-revving have done something nasty?

Any thoughts on this issue would be much appreciated.

I had a very similar problem before. Try a fresh set of spark plugs for your bike.  I did that to mine and it fixed it all.

If that doesn’t work try the following in secession

(1) Clean air filter
(2) with the engine running momentarily shut the lights off at night and make sure none of your plug wires are not shorting sparks
(2) Gas treatment 1/2 small bottle
(3) Synchronize your carburetors while doing so, make sure you have no vacuum line leaks.
(4) do a compression check make sure you have the minimum compression all cylinders, minimum usually 100 PSI.
(5) If not already done install a stage 1 or 2 kit
