testing stator - help translate for me
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:34:45 AM »
Hi everyone -
I have a '91 Bandit 400 that's having some charging issues (I guess that can happen at 65,000 miles , lol) . I have a factory manual & I've done the rectifier/regulator tests & it seems to be NFG . I want to test the stator/generator to make sure that's OK too , but I'm not 100% sure what they want ... here's a pic of the section in the maual :

Is this test 2 steps , or a test & an observation ??
I took it as being 2 tests ... is that right ??
When I do the test , I get continuity across all 3 lead wires , in all directions . Is that right ??
When I hook a lead to any of the wires , and touch ground , I get nothing .

When I do the running test , I get good AC voltage out of the generator on all connectors at 5k revs (85 or so) , so that leads me to believe it's OK . What do ya think ?? I'm not new to all of this , but just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly .

Thanks in advance !!

~~~ Allen
Thanks - just wanted to double-check myself . I was a little unsure with the wording .
