Title: turn signals

I have an '01 B12 with a turn signal integrator kit so that the brake lights are also the rear turn signals. I just bought this bike so I don't know much about it yet. Funny thing is, when I hit the brakes with the signals already on, they start blinking much faster. Does anybody know if this is normal or did the previous owner wire it up wrong? Thanks for any help.
