Title: Windshield installation 97 Bandit
Post by: Pillage on February 05, 2006, 09:09:06 PM
I'm trying to install the windshield on a 97 Bandit 1200 and I'm having trouble pulling the rubber bushings through the holes in the windshield without tearing them.
Is there a trick to this or am I just a lousy mechanic, (or is it both   )?

Your not a lousy mech, rubber is just a little old and perhaps a little cold ( don't know if you have a garage)

If the screw is taken out and at room-temp the rubber bushing should slide out with no trouble.  Try some soap to get them to slide through.

The biggest problem now I think is the cold-temperatures.

Oops, someone could have put a little glue something in there that could be hanging you up too.

Thanks Nathan,
As soon as it warms up a bit I'll give it another try! (20 degrees and 10 inches of snow so far today :-/.

Dont know if you got it yet or not, but I used a piece of string.  Put the string around the rubber piece in a loop, then feed the string through the windshield.  I used 7 pieces of string and did them all at once.   Then use a side to side motion to persuade the rubber pieces through the windshield.

You have to take the rubber mounts out of the body 1st. Slip them through the windshield And then put them back in with the windshield. I use a explorer(dentist tool) to run around the edge of the rubber (run under some warm water.) If the rubber achors get booggered up or torn, they don't cost that much and can get new ones from a dealer. They are the same for different bikes,I think Kaws and Hondas are the same. I even found red anodized allens to replace the originals with.
