'Notorious snatcher' surrenders

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- One of the motorcycle-riding snatchers in the city surrendered to the police on Friday after several months in hiding.

Police identified the suspect as Marson Diwa, a resident of Purok 4, Barangay San Jose, San Fernando City.

Superintendent Nicanor Targa, chief of the San Fernando City police, said Diwa's father prompted him to surrender after learning of his "activities".

A report said the suspect is one of the motorcycle-riding snatchers who have been victimizing several employees of establishments along the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road and McArthur Highway.

Diwa told investigators that one of his cohorts, a certain Reynaldo Sonza, committed suicide when he found out that he was being hunted by the police.

Meanwhile, Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez commended the police, led by Targa, and Chief Inspector Abel Lingat for the peaceful surrender of Diwa.

Rodriguez was citing the City police's recent apprehension of a group of snatchers, and a gang, posing as security guards, reportedly involved in numerous robberies.

He said a number of businessmen have been complaining that their employees have been victimized by snatchers along the GSO Road and McArthur Highway. The suspects, police said, usually use motorcycles in their modus-operandi.

The mayor said the police's accomplishment is a big step towards the improvement of peace and order situation in the city.

Diwa told investigators that one of his cohorts, a certain Reynaldo Sonza, committed suicide when he found out that he was being hunted by the police.
