Motorcycle-for-murder foiled
Loveland man, mom involved in trade scheme

By Pamela Dickman
The Daily Reporter-Herald

A Loveland man faces 48 years in prison for offering to trade a custom motorcycle for the murder of a woman who accused him of rape.
“It’s either her or me,” Daniel Park, 48, reportedly told a fellow inmate at the Larimer County Detention Center in July, according to court records.

That inmate as well as another told authorities about the offer, which Park then relayed to an undercover officer.

On Monday, Park will be sentenced for that crime.

And his mother, Lois Park, faces the same charge for allegedly helping her son.

On Jan. 15, a Fort Collins woman accused Park of rape.

Fort Collins police launched an investigation, and on Jan. 25, they arrested Park, charging him with sexual assault and burglary.

The next day, the woman called police again. This time, she said Lois Park had called her from a pay phone and threatened her life if she did not drop the charge against Daniel Park.

Police arrested Lois Park, and the 68-year-old Loveland woman pleaded guilty to witness intimidation. She was granted a two-year deferred sentence.

In the meantime, the case against Daniel Park continued, and he remained jailed at the Larimer County Detention Center in Fort Collins.

In mid-July, a pod-mate at the jail told investigators that Park offered him his custom 1995 Paughco motorcycle in exchange for killing the victim of the alleged sexual assault.

Inmate Anthony Lopatowski said Park told him to lure the woman to a vacant building using her cleaning service then shoot her in the head, according to court records.

Ten days later, another inmate, Barry Lang, told police that Lois Park had sent $500 to his girlfriend as an initial payment for the murder. Detectives confirmed Lois Park’s writing on the money order, according to court records.

Then a week later, an undercover officer contacted Park and offered to do the job. They made the arrangements, and the officer went to Park’s Loveland home where Lois Park reportedly gave “Miguel Gonzales” the title of the motorcycle as payment for the murder, according to court records.

Police then filed a second case against both Daniel and Lois Park, accusing them of soliciting murder.

Daniel Park entered into a plea agreement Oct. 24, pleading guilty to solicitation and burglary, which carry maximum sentences of 48 years and 12 years, respectively. Charges of attempted murder, sexual assault and felony menacing were dismissed.

Lois Park pleaded innocent to solicitation of murder. Her trial is scheduled in February.
