97' B12 ABS question
« on: March 24, 2006, 02:15:37 PM »
Hello all,

I recently purchased a '97 Bandit 1200 that has the ABS option.

The bike didn't come with the manual, so I thought I'd poke around here.
(I searched the archives, but not a lot of ABS topics came up.)

Anyhow, the ABS light flashes from a dead stop up until about 25mph, then it goes off.  Is that normal?

When coming to a stop again (not turning off motor), the light begins to flash again, and repeats the process of turning off at 25mph.

We don't get a lot of ABS owners - they weren't a hot seller - but from what I recall from the few sporadic visits from ABS owners, this sounds like it's normal.

You might want to keep an eye out on Ebay for a manual for your bike. Not sure if the ABS version has its own separate book, of if the book for any '97 will work. Perhaps someone with a non-ABS '97 that still has their owners manual can answer this.

It might also be covered in one of the service manuals that cover that bike. You can download a copy of one in the Members section and look.

Red, thanks for the info.

I guess my other question that any ABS owners might be able to answer is: are the brake pads the same between the non-ABS bike and the ABS bike.

The ABS bikes use different pads!
That much I do know.

OK, one of the bandit sites had the service manual posted, including the addendum for the ABS model.

Apparently, what I'm experiencing is caused by a fault brake light... I'll have to check that out.

Now, to find a thread that lists bulb replacements I can find at an auto-store.

(Is the gas gauge supposed to have a light?  The speed-and-tachometers had lights, the gas gauge was dark.)
