Title: Anybody Know Early '90's Fireblades??
Post by: jbrough7 on May 31, 2006, 01:54:52 PM
Specifically a 1993 Fireblade CBR400RR (or R+RR????).  Pretty sporty bike that really has a nice look to it.  I've never really been interested before but apparently there is one for sale just down the road for $800!!  The only thing wrong with it is the rear tire is bald.  Runs great but it's only a 400 so not a ton of power.  My informant is 16 years old so I'm not too sure of the reliability of these details.

Anybody know anything about these things?  Stay away?  Things to look for?

I figure for $800, it might be a lot of fun...(this ain't the one - just got it from bike pics)

Very sharp!

While it may not be a wheelie machine or capable of 140, I'll bet it's plenty quick if you keep her spooled up.  I'm sure it was a competetor of the GSXR400 - which has the same basic motor as my B4.  What it lacks in grunt it at least mostly makes up with light flickability and a rev-happy motor.  My typical riding is playing in the twisties with modern "R" bikes.  I don't think I'm ever a drag on the group.  That's my 3 degrees of separation analysis, anyway.  :bigok:

If its those colours it will match your new helmet!!!

Seriously, for 800 smackers I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. Buy it and if you don't like it or want it I'll buy it off ya.

Man - I really want that bike - I'm going to try to go take a look at it tomorrow, if I can.  Durn thing won't be around for long, I bet.

I wonder if it has been trashed - younger guy doing you know what??  My nephew came to visit on the weekend and his right upper fairing started to come off in the wind.  He doesn't feel like stopping so he jerks on it till it comes off and then he throws the piece away!!

I remember those days but they ARE behind me!

Interfuse is right, the engine is the same as in the CB-1, identical situation as the B4 and Gsxr400.
a long time ago i did some research in these. Really bulletproof, the cams are not chain driven, but sprocket driven! In other words, you'll never need to readjust the cams, but if the sprockets go bad then it can be expensive.
i have a small movie of a cb1 on a dyno, veeery impressive
I'd take it too!

I did a bit of research; it's only 53 hp!  But then the thing only weighs 350 lb. so that should be able to scoot.

hey hey, only 53? :annoy: that's about the same as the stock B4's...

Then the stats say the 600 CBR rr jumps to 100 hp!!  Can't see how that is possible for that much difference between two similar engines with only 200 cc separating them.

there never has been a big market for 400cc's, so it's kinda logical the research in 600's is much greater and thus they're more efficient. That's how i would see it.
You know what? Try to test-ride it, see if you like it

For $800 you gotta pick it up, 53hp is not so bad for a bike this size. A gixxer it isnt, but nice deal for a young guy.

Jim, you're pretty tall for a 400, aren't you?  I mean, I'm 5'9 and I didn't fit very well on my GS450.  Knees up above the tank and so forth.

We have a bunch of 6-footers in the B4 forum.  I have no idea if the ergonomics are different between the Honda 4s and 6s.

Yeah - I'm hearing it's pretty tiny and the seat height is WAY down there!  Have to get on the thing today!  (pant, pant)

Heck you shoule be fine on that bike. Toss'er round pretty good.
My first bike was a ninja 250. I think that had all of 26HP. Yeah, It was smaller than some riding lawn mowers. But I was able to get it up to an indicated 110. "FASTER MY DEMENTED SEWING MACHINE!!! FASTER!!!!!" I am 6'2" and was prolly a little tall for it but dang you can throw those little things around pretty good. I find it funny because on the bandit 250 board it is just talking about normal stuff but on the ninja board I used to look at they are all looking to get more power outta the motor they have. Seems a lotta the lil ninja owners have an inferiority complex about their bikes.

I think it would be a blast but I think I might have lost out!  My 16 year old source says he thinks his cousin has bought it already cuz he's seen him riding it around!  Darn it, anyway!  But I've put out feelers saying I'm real interested and you never know - one blown drug deal and the kid might come beggin' for a few clams!
