It's true I tell ya. God does love dumb people.

God does love stupid people, he must do he made so efen many of them.

Well folks, in my days I have come across many a person, whom must at all costs, be part of the darwin awards.
But todays effort was one of the best, well it would have been, if it had not have nearly taken me out while riding along minding my own bees wax at 50MPH. :duh:

Mr, I want to win the Darwin awards, had been to his local hardware house, Bunnings what ever, and had purchased 2 new 4 self storage units. Even used his cage trailer. hmmm, sound cool so far.
Didn't lay the units down did he. Didn't tie the efen things down either.
Open trailer+ 50 MPH= 2 x 4 shelved wings.

Yeh out they came, straight into the path, of one dumb motorcyclist.
I missed them both, but I needed to head straight home and change my under pants.

Anyway I pulled up beside Mr, I Really want to win the Darwin awards.
He had no idea that his new purchase of shelves was struin over the road
And when he finally woke up, he looked totally dumbfounded as to why I would be giving him a mouthfull of abuse. Jeez some people are just efen brain dead I'm sure.
Foot loose and fancy free.
Looking for adventure and what ever comes our way.

A year or two back there was big news down here about an accident that was caused when a -washer- fell off the back of a delivery truck on the interstate. Several people were killed, the delivery driver never noticed the washer was missing.

Secure your loads, people!  :duh:

I remember one time in Phoenix on I-10 near the airport, a semi hauling a bunch of vehicles Eastbound.  Well on the top rack facing backwards was a full size pick-up truck.  Normally not a problem, but that is until the wind caught the bedliner just right.  The next thing I knew there was a giant piece of plastic about 15' in the air and it came down fast.  Luckily I was in the other lane when it happened and nobody was directly behind him.  Even though I was directly behind him, it still scared the heck out of me.  It is amazing how fast something like that can happen.

Musta been the same type of guy who pulled out from a contruction materials sales place near here. He had a sheet of of 4x8' foot particle  board on the roof of his car. No problem as he told his short=young son to hold on to the edge thru the open window as he was.
Away they go downwind. Eventually they overtake the windspeed and son can no longer hold on to the "wing" which flips the sheet into the opposite lane at speed . Fortunately, I was trailing this guy and backed off long before.

I had a similar situation here.  I was travelling down the highway and had an SUV pulling a small open trailer oncoming.  I saw something begin to "float" on the trailer, and started slowing down.  A couple of seconds later, these 4x8 sheets of plywood start spinning off of the trailer, like frisbies.  I hit the brakes hard and managed to drive over one about a second after it touched the ground.   At the time I was driving a little Escort ZX2, terrifying to watch that stuff hovering momentarily at eye-level.

I turned around and gave the guy an earful, and extolled the virtues of tying your sh!t down! ( Though at 5'4" and not a lot of lbs,.. I'm not sure how scary I was. ;))

It's stuff like that, and drivers suddenly turning left from the far right lane that sometimes make me question my choice to ride a bike,... or drive,.. or get out of bed.

Back in the early eightys while I living in San Antonio I was driving West on the 410 loop just getting ready to turn off to the madical school around 7 AM when I noticed an old flat bed truck about fifty yards ahead heaped with old tires. Something in the back of mind told me that there was something not quite right about the truck and I started to reduce my closing speed. Before I knew it the rope holding a row of about twelve tires broke and they started bounding down the loop toward me and the other travelers. Suddenly looked like a scene from Matrix cars scidded all over. In the end the tires never hit anyone and no one hit any body else. The truck driver never knew what happened  ..... I did cancel class that day and went home for a beer.
