Title: B12 to SV1kS
Post by: Mini4x on September 15, 2006, 09:59:37 PM
Ok not don't black list me..

I am looking at "upgrade" my 98 B12.

Found a leftover 03 SV1000S

Seriously considering it..

Thoghts?

Anyone ridden both a bunch..

I do a bunch of city driving, and cold weather.. two things the bandit seems to hate..

Pros:
EFI
Lighter
quicker steering
V2 low end grunt (not that the bandit lacks grunt)

Cons:
Spending money..

Rumor has it that the EFI is messed up on the  SV1000's  (not the SV650)Supposedly they fixed the problem with the '06 model.

Speed about equal... comfort goes to the Bandit...  handling goes to the SV.

Opinion?  It won't be much of an upgrade unless your B12 is ready for the junk heap.

A friend of mine used to have a TL1000S.  When his TL broke after 100,000 miles, he sold it.  He eventually bought a SV1000S to relive the glory days.  Needless to say, it wasn't the same and he didn't like it.  It didn't have as good handling and not as much power.  I know that the upright version has a real similar riding position to the Bandit.  I thought about it, but stuck with the Bandit. He has a Bandit 1200 and used to have the SV.  I will email him to see how the two compare since he has experience on both bikes.

I like the SV.  But it's not as much bike as a B12, nor as versatile.

Whatchoo mean by not as much bike..

Powerwise, they are equal..
The SV is lighter by clsoe to 100lb, which i seeas a plus..

SV has better suspension..

Not sure about ergos..

Performance is about equal on both bikes, but the B 12 has way cheaper  insurance rates.

in city riding I can ride circles around my friends sv his steers easyer through the turns at speed out of town though

and to hear both start up cold ...lol his sounds like my bandit before the jet kit

sounds like you just need to run down to your dealer and buy some new Farkle for the bike you have

I like the SV 1000 too. One of the Robinson brothers have one and he loves it. Like the Bandit, you can find one for the right $,if you look or wait for the right deal.. About the same power(stock) but lighter in a aluminum frame. I've never actully rode one myself, but I would like to. I'm hoping to get one in the next yr. I do the best I can on track days with the Bandit, and suprise alot of pepole. But I bet I could carry better corner speed on the SV. If and when I can make a deal on a SV,I'll just hold on to my Bandit. I can keep it at my buddys shop, and we'll have a spare bike.  Dan
