Bandit 1, Deer 0
« on: July 19, 2011, 07:56:24 PM »
I was riding north today on Arkansas 123 (the best!) at about 70 mph on my big Bandit, the 1250.  Something streaked out of the tall grass, crossed one lane and went directly under my front wheel.  The bike bounced, the handlebars twitched once and then went on unscathed.  My first thought was, "That's the biggest rabbbit I've ever seen and I just killed it with my front wheel!"  I looked my rear view mirror and saw something big and brown still tumbling down the road.  I went back out of curiosity and there was a dead fawn in the road!  It had a body about the size of a cocker spaniel (with longer legs of course!)  It had taken a direct hit in its midsection and there was already a pool of blood and the intestines were snaked out over the road.  Well, better his than mine!  Fortunately the bike had been straight up and down when the collision occurred or I might be writing this from the hospital!
Within two hundred yards I passed another dead fawn in the road, same size as the one I bagged!  I had pitched mine back in the weeds (estimate 25 lbs) but whoever got the other just left it there.  If this weren't enough deer for the day, I saw two more in the next fifty miles.  Both were adult does; one stood its ground on the side and the other just ambled unconcerned across the road about 100 feet in front of me.  Glad I was on my big Bandit and not my little fellow (GSF 400).

    Good on you for making it thru safely - and pickin' up da' trash.  :thumb:

Man I sure miss running 123...  the heat, rain and lack of funds have killed my Arky trips this year.  That and a little scam they got running on 27 outside of Murfreesboro.   :banghead: :rant2:

Any sort of infraction trap...

Starring a supposedly off-duty city LEO lurking outside city limits with connections to a trooper buddy and a radio.   :annoy:

Now ordinarily I'd say just bad luck but with identical scenarios played out over the course of a year it's a scam in my book.
