Title: Bike Movies
Post by: Cargo7 on November 11, 2005, 12:53:19 AM
OK folks - it feels like winter up here in BC. My insurance just ran out for the year and it feels like rain for awhile. That means less riding and more bench racing...

I've collected a number of good cage movies over the years - you know all the usual suspects in the B-movie line up. Gumball, Cannonball, Mad Mad World, Ronin, Christine, Italian Jobs etc.

I'd be interested in hearing if we know of any good bike movies out there - I have McQueen's Great Escape which has a bit of good 2 wheeled action. I've got Torque (Hey it was only 10 bucks).

Any suggestions besides GP500 videos to fill the void? Ron.

On Any Sunday, or the two follow-ups & Faster are good moto documentarys.

There was a 1 hour special (40 minutes after you take out commercials) on Miguel Duhamel on Speed the other day called "Duhamel - Adrenaline Rush" - had some family clips of Miguel back when he was a kid and his dad Yvon was a pro racer. Not bad, but more of an interview format with family films thrown in. The did show a lot of footage of Miguel crashing...

B-grade cage movies - got Two Lane Blacktop, Vanishing Point, Gone in 60 Seconds (the original)?

The two greatest bike flicks:

"The Wild One" with Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin (1953) - an American classic!

"On Any Sunday" - featuring Steve McQueen, Malcolm Smith and Mert Lawill.  The way it WAS!

Amazon's got 'em both for a song....enjoy.

Burn rubber, not your soul!

One of my fav old cage movies is Steven Speilberg's first movie - "Duel (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1800060121&cf=info&intl=us)"

Duel is excellent!  I remember reading it in a magazine before it became a movie.  Dennis Weaver is good.

If you guys in the 'states can get hold of them, 2 of the best bike movies I've seen are

1.   Stone - '70's Aussie cult classic - about a cop (Stone) who goes undercover with the Grave Diggers MC to find out whose killing them - great film -  particularly if your a fan of the Z900's

2.   Mad Max - starring Mel Gibson I've been on all the roads in this movie, filmed around the Geelong/Werribee/Laverton/Anakie areas (not Mad Max 2 - it's a good movie but not many bikes and definitly not Mad Max 3 - Beyond boredom)

Hey Mick,

If you're referring to Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth (the ex-NFL football player) that was a good movie to watch. I particularly enjoyed the scenes of the choppers riding through the courthouse.

Here's a link for those who don't remember this flick

Not to mention of course Easy Rider, which made it to the National Archives.

There's also an interesting doc made back in the 80s called Dawn Riders about what is now a famouse Sunday morning motorcycle ride along the California coast. Not sure if it's readily available, however. Dawn Riders was the catalyst that finally made me get the motorcycle license I planned to do thirty years back...

I almost forgot about Easy Rider. I'm ordering "On Any Sunday" and "Faster" via Amazon.

I started riding dirt in the early 70's and been riding street since '76 and I've never actually seen On Any Sunday - so something to look forward to!

Great suggestions, Ron

I like TORQUE.  Yeah, it's the silliest entry in the FAST & FURIOUS set, but it's good natured silly, with comic book dialog and some cool stunts (with liberal help from the CGI).  Get buzzed on whatever you get buzzed on and enjoy!

...and Torque even has a cameo appearance of a 2G B12 near the end...

Torque only has one good part as far as I could tell.  Towards the beggening where they are riding an awesome set of twisties.

The sequence on the train, which is of course totally impossible (drop the bike sideways between two cars?  Maybe on a trials bike!) was totally a blast in the theater.  Like many movies, the home experience mahes the special effects not-so-special.  But for lightweight fun, I'd otherwise have to disagree with you.  The bike-top fight between the two chicks near the end?  The R.O.T.JEDI-like chanse through the palms?  It's high-octane fun, and you can tell 'em Sven says so!

some nudity then its all slow riding and european countryside

"easy rider"
this was good when I was younger and on drugs

Satan's Sadists (1969)

Mission Impossible II had some pretty cool scenes with a Black Naked.

I thought the purple Rain bike was a honda CB450 (only two exhausts) and a Vetter fairing.

what was the bike movie 25 years ago, where the bike club was like some Knighhood?  I think that Ed Harris or one of the "Right Stuff" guys was in it?

I wanna see the M/C Diaries.  Also wanna see the GP movie that just came out on DVD.

oh shmack!

how could I forget Judas Priest's video for "Turbo Lover"
bad special effects, bad hair, cheesy techno-metal, g-strings with fishnets, bike-riding robots, sidecars, crazy fenderless naked frankenbikes, and everything else.

great motorbike media!

I rented "Dust to Glory" from the video store the other day. Excellent cinematography! I had to add it to my collection... and I don't do that very often - it's my wife who usually buys movies.

It's a documentry on the Baja 1000 and covers the bikes & trophy trucks the most. Some buggies and a smattering of stock car class and only a couple of spots on the ATV's. It's done by Dana Brown, son of Bruce Brown, who did "On Any Sunday." Like his dad, he started off with a surf documentry film ("Step into Liquid").

Just saw "World's Fastest Indian".....It's the best motorcycle based theatric movie ever made.

Can take the whole family.  Just real people in a real time...captured the era.
I know he really didn't go 200 mph, but otherwise it was pretty realistic.

Loved seeing those old land speed vehicles...and representations of real characters like Rollie Free ...I can't say enough. I got a little choked up when they gave him the sportsman award.

I think this was Hopkins best movie.

Fantastic! See it!

Noted for the clubs members funeral and last ride where a F1 type  sidecar carries the coffin. Huge Huge Huge. And I do beleive all ausie actors with a few ex pat english men

The Black Birds rode a chopper or 2, plus a Ducati some Trumpys, Nortons but not Jap bikes.  At the Pub scene Bird Man comments something to the effect of "what's that Jap crap".  I thought Stone's bike was a BSA, there was one yank actor, and funnily enough he played a character call Septic.   He's famous for the line "Hey it's the fuzz man" at the grave yard when burying Go Down.

Yes I have a sad life and have seen Stone a few times - not quite as much as Mad Max but close.  Oh the hairy fella in Stone the one that was stoned at the begining also played Toe Cutter in Mad Max, the fella who played the 'priest' in Stone play the Nightrider in Mad Max, Fifi in Mad Max was also in Stone.....

Sorry I couldn't help myself - they're two of my favourite movies....
