Motorcyclist ran from police

The motorcyclist killed on Seven Lakes Drive on Saturday refused to pull over after state park police tried to stop him for speeding, Lt. David Love said yesterday.
Jeremy Hayes, 31, of Nyack was apparently still trying to evade officers when his Suzuki motorcycle crossed from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane and collided with a Chevrolet sedan.
Hayes was killed at the scene. The two passengers in the car were treated at Good Samaritan Hospital and later released.
Love said yesterday that police were continuing to investigate the accident and that there was no official cause yet. Police have determined that Hayes' motorcycle was not registered or insured, he said.
On Saturday, Love said, park police observed a speeding motorcycle on Lake Welch Drive in Stony Point and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped up.
Police continued to follow the motorcyclist, who headed south in a northbound lane of the Palisades Interstate Parkway, then made a U-turn and headed back onto Lake Welch Drive, traveling west in the eastbound lane, Love said.
Police followed the motorcycle onto Seven Lakes Drive in Haverstraw town. They lost sight of the vehicle, but continued west, slowing their search due to traffic conditions, Love said.
The officers continued along Seven Lakes Drive, entered Sloatsburg and were heading toward Route 17 when they came upon the accident, Love said.
The Rockland County medical examiner, Dr. Lone Thanning, said yesterday that Hayes had internal injuries and numerous broken bones, including a broken neck.
A funeral for Hayes was held yesterday.
Police said Saturday that the accident occurred about 11:25 a.m. on Seven Lakes Drive, where it crosses the railroad tracks used by NJ Transit and other carriers.
Love said Saturday that Harriman State Park police took on the investigation because they arrived first on the scene. They were assisted by members of the State Police Accident Reconstruction Team. Love said yesterday that police were awaiting the team's report as part of the investigation.
