Title: Cold weather
Post by: solman on January 20, 2007, 08:43:55 PM
Must be the cold weather!   I haven't been seeing good topics lately. Seems like we have been talking more about spammers than bike stuff.  I may be wrong, but that is what I have been noticing.  Am I wrong?

I am seeing this on other motorcycle boards too... lots of "off-topics" and general rants with very little to do with bikes.

Naturally, I am somewhat (no make the VERY) sick of the clouds, rain, sleet, ice and general inclement weather...... BUT.... forecast is mid 60's and sun for (no pun intended)SUNday.

All I need to do is re-mount the rear tire (darn nail at less than 1,000 miles) and take off - even if for only 50-100 miles.... "Hey mister - I just wanna ride!!!"

Now there was one spam post with HUGE boobies that I almost left (should have just deleted the link) but rest assured there's no free ride for any spammer.

Had a nice ride Saturday here in the NYC area. :monkeymoon: It was around 20°, and except for a flooded area coming off the 59th bridge,  it was a good ride. Fortunately the flooded area was salted so it wasn't frozen over, although my pipes are salt baked! Gotta rinse them when the temp rises above freezing.  :bandit:

Agreed, Solman, and I think it's all due, of course, to the post-Christmas, empty-wallet syndrome....
That's enough to give anyone the blahs....
Of course, in Cowtown, we've had the International Motorcycle Show in early January to help get things going again and then there's the World of Wheels Show coming up in late February and then, before you know it, it's March and the beginning of another riding season.
Now if I can just spend more time in the saddle this summer...

and as a followup:
January 25th...one month after Christmas....I actually saw three bikes on the road in Cowtown. Admittedly it was a nice day....sunny....+12C (55F) and no wind to speak of. Firstly
I saw a very nice black and silver 'Busa (2003??) going at a nice clip in and out of traffic in a "professional" manner. Then, later, an RC51 with a squidly type of rider doing squidly things.
Lastly, a 1200 Sportster, older, kinda ratty with leather saddlebags and the obligatory shotgun exhausts.
Looks like the riding season is starting early in Cowtown. Who'da thunkit ???

No 2 wheel riding here, temps. are singal didgets(F),so the salt won't work to melt the ice on the roads. Thur. I 90 was closed from OH to NY do to a 14 vehical pile up.  Its like people get amnesia(sp?) and forget how to drive in the winter. Or passers through don't know how to drive in the winter or both.
My brother and the rest of the snowmobilers are happy though. They finally got some snow to ride on. I live on a legal snowmobile road, they go buzzing by in packs all the time. Also a trail through our woods.
When I finally do get clean roads and temps warm enough to stand a ride. I switch from my leathers to my insulated Carharts, and snowmobile gloves, hunting socks and work boots .  Dan
