This was the end of my first complete and without incidence season. I had no tickets, no crashes, other than a couple of ooops, darn, there she goes, tip overs. I did over ten thousand miles, about twenty-five hundred with my wife. I managed a trip around Lakes Huron and Superior, a tour of the North East and a bunch of other great memories.
Last season was my first season in twenty-three years. However, it ended with a blown engine on my 84 Nighthawk. I still have it and might tear it down this winter and see if I can rebuild her and giver to my wife.
It's time to hang the bike up til spring. I mean that literally. I hang it from the rafters in my woodworking shop.
Thanks for all the great tips, stories and really bad jokes. I hope to hookup with some of you guys next year, down in God's country where the roads only go straight to get to the next twist faster.

Post some Pictures of your storage system. That I just got to see. :thanks:

Glad to hear you had a great season. Mine seemed to end early this yr. As soon as I started working 7 days a week, and alot of them out of town.
My brother-in-law stores his snowmobiles in the rafters of our picnic provilian at our pond. (my Mom,2 brothers,2 sisters, myself, and our familes all live on my greatgrand parents farm land and have a big pond and picnic area about 1/4 mile back from the road) He never puts them up when anyone is around, doesn't want anyone to be able to take them down. But a section big enough for his snowmobile(1 on each side of the provilian) unbolts and swings down with a come-along. Pepole will be sitting at a picnic table and sooner or later look up to see snowmobiles in the rafters. Of course we tell them that we just drive them up wnen the snow is deep.

I curious about the "blown engine". That in and of itself doesn't mean anything to me. Did it have a valve train malfunction? Does it need a new piston (engine seized)? Did the crank bearings go?
Oh yeah, nice to hear you had a good season too.
Now that you jinxed yourself, you can not take the bike out agian till next year, no matter how nice it gets. :duh:

End of the riding season?! The hell you say! I just ordered A First Gear riding jacket and pants.I have the Kilamanjaro III jacket and the matching insulated pants on the way. We don't usually get a lot of ice or snow down here so,depending on how well this stuff works,I should be able to ride most of the "off season". The the Bandit will get no long term rest here.
-
I hear that. I've bought a Tour Master coat and some Duratex riding pants(which haven't shown up yet). My Nolan flip-up will be here Friday. With gas prices the way they are right now, I'm riding until I can't stand it anymore. :beers:
-
SwampRat, I think you will like the First Gear stuff. I have the Kilimanjaro and pants aswell. 40 degrees this morning. Good to go. I do need better gloves. My hands did get a little cold. Or even better I need to pick up a set of those Dual Star Grip heaters. www.dual-star.com 23 mile commute, 50% of it @ 70 mph.

Put some pics in when you have your bike in the rafters, I'd like to see your set up also. I'll do some winter riding. Have to stick to the lowlands though. Not all bad, I'll ride up the peninsula and then warm up with a ferry boat ride home. Its nice for that here, bikes are first on, first off.
-
Okay so it was really nasty cold and wet here this week. The weekend looks reeally promising and the wife and kids are away...hmmmm?
-
That's pretty much a"no brainer" Silverstreak.
-
Nice thing about living in the banana belt, I can ride year round with my Belstaf gear.
-
Yeah whats all this about End of Season!! Down here in sunny south it's 70-72 in the day time and upper 50's at night. Thats better then the Iraq temps we have in the summer which is about 5 months long! But right now is prime riding weather.

Isn't it Florida that they're taliking about when they say "318 miles, 11 curves" :?:
I don't have to put my bike away for the winter - I just can't ride as often - unless I wanna ride in the wet. It's a worthwhile price for the roads we have, :bigok:

Unfortunatly, yeah...

Does anyone make decent leather winter gear? I haven't seen anything yet. I'd like to get something in leather for winter that brings CE armor in the elbows, shoulders and back (or at least a pocket inthe back that I can put one in), but I haven't found a thing.
-
Check the First Gear web site. They have leather as do with many other companies.
-
it was 30 degrees today and i rode the bandit to mother in laws, only thing i need is some thicker pants as jeans and thermals arent enough. And as the wife wants children eventually, (My children  , will not take another ride like that, as changing colors is a bad thing). So been looking on websites finding a pair of extra fat sizes to wear.
-
I have a pair of First Gear over pants that I like a lot. They are waterproof, yet breathable and have removeable padding in the knees and hips.
-
I got my First Gear stuff in friday and I can't wait for the temps to drop again just to try them out. Kilamanjaro III jacket and the HT over pants.
I also called HJC to get some parts to repair my wifes helmet{HJC CL14}, she broke the hinge mechanism. Do ya know they sent me the repair parts free! How cool is that? I also inquired about the breath box and they sent that too, also free of charge. With service like that they will keep me as a customer for a while. So between the riding suit and the breath box...I should be good to go this winter.
-
You will like the Kilimanjaro jacket Brian. I have the same set-up as you. It takes a little more time to put on than say an Aerostich suit, but the First Gear apparel I have is very water proof.
-
Well, I'm sure the Kilimanjaro is a nice jacket, but it ain't leather. I'm looking for a really good leather jacket, and I haven't found anything that has all the armor I'd like. The closest I've seen are 2 Dainese jackets, but they need an additional backplate. Still, they're one of the few jackets I've seen that come close:

I just wear my Columbia outers over my leather. I ride regardless of temperature and I don't have any problems with my set-up. Warm and protected.
-
That's what I'm was trying to state. First Gear has leather riding gear too....probably more leather than textile. Go to the site and give them a gander.
-
Sorry guys, no pics, cuz the bike never made it to the rafters. I've had it out almost every week all through what ever season this has been.
-
And most of the curves are really just bends in the road. You have to appoach triple digits to make it into a curve. Lol
