What is that modification I read about once on Fast Larry's site, or maybe here, about some drop in replacement thingy from one of the Zukes in the '80s?  I've tried to find it here and can't.  Got a link?  was something to do with the heads as I recall.  Take something out of the Bandit and replace with a similar, but higher performance version from one of the old bikes.

I'm drawing a blank.

And what's up with Fast Larry's site?  Can't load any pages from there.

Holly Crap! I can post again!
Anyhow, I droped in 89"750 cams,Thats the only thing I can think of without pulling the head. I went with both intake and exhaust. The next step would be to pull the head and do the ports. Wich I would probably have Katana John do. Or Dale Walker, someone that has done them. Otherwise you may be doing them over again. I believe Frosty went that rout.

That's it!  The cams!  Geez, I'm gettin old.  I think they're still available NOS, if I remember right.  Somebody said that once.  Now, once you get those in, does anything else have to be done?  I'm not technical at all, so, ...  Do the different cams mean you do anything like readjust carbs, timing, anything?  What do the 750 cams do to the bike's performance?

Any negatives?

Looking at the schematic...

Would it only be part #1 and part #4 that I need, or other associated parts, as well?

I got my cams through Ron Ayers,it but me back about $150. They give you about 8-10 hp. I havn't dynoed it afterwards, but it brings your power range in higher rpm. When I put mine in I installed the timing addvacer, put on a full exhaust,K&Npods, and a stage 2 kit from Holeshot.
Then I proceeded to take carb tuning 101.

You can just get the intake cam w/o the exhaust . And it helps with low and mid torque. (I beleive)

Yes. 88/89 slingshot, work real well i'm told.
I'm not to bothered at this stage, this coming winter I'll just drop the whole slingshot motor in. Now if that don't scare the living pooh out of the minister of war nothing will.

I'm not sure about that. Best check with Fast Larry on that one. Best budget mods for a 600 are ignition advancer, jetting and slip-on. Next would be some 34mm flatslides. The stock exhaust header is very good.

I run a 748cc Katana motor in my 1996 600 chassis.

You know you can go to www.holeshot.com and order Dale Walkers cams and such.  I think they are basically the old GSXR1100 cams.  Plus he has all the other high performance stuff too.

The Gsxr750 slingshot cams do give better preformance in the top end only, when used in the 600 motor. The gains made in the 600 motor are nowhere as noticable as the same mod in the 1200. Yes Budget mods, ie igniton advance, I used the ignition rotor out of a slingshot motor, I didn't go through the BS of measuring the advance but to the naked eye it looks around 5 to 6 degrees. I don't know about the flatslide 34mm carbs, I've found the stock carbs tricked up work just fine. Yes the stock headers are a very good starting point.

Yup, #1 & 4 would be all you need. The GSXR cams will give you more juice on top at a sacrifice of bottom end. Doing just the intake cam will have only a very slight loss of bottom end with a real wake up on top. Adding the exhaust cam will give you a couple-three more horses, but the impact on the bottom end is more noticeable. They really work nice with higher compression pistons or a shaved head, then you basically end up with an 1157cc GSXR motor.

I don't want to go any further with motor tinkering than the cams.  Sounds like I'm wasting money on the exhaust cam, but the intake cam may make enough difference to be worthwhile.  And no difference between using the Suzuki NOS part or the Holeshot, I'm getting.

Thanks!   :thanks:

Holeshot sells two different sets of cams. One set is from Megacycle, where they rework your cam cores, and are hotter than the GSXR cams, the other set is genuine Suzuki parts.
