On my way into work yesterday, after I stopped off at PEP Boyz, I went down the street to the local Honda/Suzuki dealer just to see what they had.

Back by the parts counter, they had this on display with a for sale sign on it.

Looks like your run of the mill 2000 model GSXR750, right.
Under that plastic resides a Hayabusa engine... but not an ordinary 1298cc version. This one was 1397cc. The bike was built by their resident Suzuki tuner who builds crazy Suzukis for himself, then sells them after a couple of years when he's ready to do the next project. At $10,999 it was a little rich for my blood though. Would be fun to blast by some Busa rider on it though, I'm sure.

They also has a sweet looking black DR400SM with a full Yosh exhaust and a gel seat and only 960 miles. They were asking $5999 for that. I was sorely tempted to start price haggling on that, but could only imagine how upset my SO would be if I came home with another bike without consulting... but damn, that was a cool bike to sit on!

those engines are fun
they make v8s with them for kit cars in europe
like 2-3 liter v8s with hella HP

This may be a stupid question, but how do you make a v8 out of an inline 4?

Anyways, that would be very fun. Kinda like having a pinto with a peppy v8 in it

They build a special bottom end and a custom crank, then put two Hayabusa blocks on it.

These look like a lot of fun. Too bad the they are all rear engine.
These V8's, could sill work shoe horned into a scooter as a beginner bike.

How did the GEL seat look? I don't think I could handle 15 minutes on the stock seat.......

I rode down to the local stealer today, and first thing that catches my eye was a dr400 sm. I have found my new love, I have to have it. Price doesn't sound too bad either $5500, 6k out the door, i'm sure I could get that down a little. I'm so used to riding dirt bikes on the road anyways, I could rail that lil' thing through the corners. Look out Pete!

Just a dream though. sigh

The gel seat didn't look that different from the stocker - just seemed more comfortable.

When I first saw the DRZ SM I thought no big deal, a DR with street tires. This is actually a great bike and it made Cycle World's top 10. It looks like a blast on the street and I imagine it still retains some off road ability. Hey Paul, the guy who built this, wasn't he featured in Cycle World? Didn't he build some radical racer with a GS500 motor?

That's OK, Josh, the next set of tires I get for the DR will be a hair more pavement oriented.

I like the DRZ SM, but for a thousand bucks or so, I can get a spare set of wheels for my DR650, and
then have a real dual purpose machine!

I wonder how much they could lighten up the DL 650, and turn it into a supermotard type bike?

Cycle World or Sport Rider, or maybe both. Yes, he also built a pair of GS500's that were pretty trick. One was a street bike that he sold to a friend of mine and the other he roadracered for a few years. Both bikes had half of a GSXR1100 head that he did custom work to to slap atop the 500 mills. The work was so clean that unless you knew what a GS500's head was supposed to look like, you'd think it was OEM.
