Can't say I follow that Aussie expression...

yeah- that is pretty wild...I see that they lowered the deths to 4 this morning...pending what they still haven't uncovered yet.
-
20-30 people still unaccounted for... RIP....
-
i've been over that bridge a few times. Luckily, all my friends down there were nowhere near it at the time.

Our biggest bridges all float up here, but we have several elevated freeways & highways that run on top of each other for miles that would be even more disaterous if something like that were to ever happen to one of them. (Think of the 1989 Oakland earthquale where the I-880 freeway collapsed on top of itself.) (http://www.ladder54.com/photosmisc.htm)

I think Mick is trying to say while he enjoys good natured ribbing of Americans he's also sympathetic to our disasters. Thanks for the thoughts, Mick.

Yes, Gerty was the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge. (http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/TNBhistory/#4) Gerty's replacement just had a partner bridge opened a few weeks ago... but The Narrows doesn't compare in length to the floating bridges over Lake Washington or Hood Canal. Not to say disaster can't strike a floating bridge, two of them have had a sinking event, but it was during storms when no one was on them.

Yeh kinda.
To us aussies, hanging shyte on Americans, like racing cars, (and bikes of course), watching football, ( and cricket, just in case a pom should read this I will not say anything about jelly beans :stickpoke: ) eating meat pies and drinking beer. Its a efen sport down here mate. Who else in the world, (ok other than the poms, white South Africans, the French) could we hang shyte, without nuc's being let off at our back door, oophs there goes the French. :duh:
