Title: Fave Bikes From the 60's / 70's/ 80's / Whenever!!
Post by: jbrough7 on April 12, 2006, 08:15:55 PM
Seems quite a few of us are over the hill as in the wrong side of 35, so we all must have some fave bikes from years past.  Let's share with pics and a bit of a story, please!

I love this thing I think because I was sixteen and it was my first love.  And it was the first motorcycle I ever saw in yellow!  Still want one today and just sat on one at a motorcycle show in Toronto.  Are those pipes straight from Italy , or what??

1976 Honda CB400F:

Anybody got some others??

No story to tell, really.  But I did like my 1982 GS450TX.  Hauled my fat @ss around nimbly; no problem!  Just a little too short for me (5'9).  Restored it myself, too!

Before the case guards, backrest/rack, and new magneto cover...

Not an old fart but like and have owned some old bikes.  I loved my 78 CB750K.  And who didn't love the Honda CBX?  Or the RD350's embarassing the CB's.  And I cannot leave without mentioning the KZ1000's.  Plus the early 70's Triumph Bonnevilles.  Oh crap.  I just love all performance driven 2 wheeled machines.

Closing in on 50 this yr., I enjoyed some older bikes too. But the one I enjoyed riding the most was my Dad's Triumph650 TT motor in a Chrome molly Rickman frame. With knobbies! (my Dad was a big guy)
I also had a lot of fun racing my Bultaco Pursang (Astro)250cc.

Mid 90's Ducati 900SS, always lusted them- So much I finally bought one. Got to be one of the sexiest machines ever made. Pound for pound a true thoroughbred.

I just picked up a 1982 Honda CB900 on Sunday. As soon as I get my camera working I'll post some picks. It's in pretty good shape. It runs, and everything works, just needs some carb work and a valve adjustment. Not bad for $500.

CB400f SuperSports are my favorite also! I have a 75 CB360t Cafe racer project that I'm working on. I would like to find the 400 motor for it since both bikes use the same frame and it would drop right in! Can't beat those four into one pipes!

I still remember my first bike, a 1974 Honda Trail 70.  It was cool, it was rare in that it had a real clutch.  You could pop cool wheelies!  I had a '78 Yamaha 750 3 cyl. that was my first bike with real power.  An old favorite was my 1989 Honda Cr500 dirt bike, a true beast.  There was not a hill or dune this thing could not climb!  Ate rear knobbies for lunch.  My father in law has a '78 Honda CB 750 sitting in his garage, unused for over 15 years with 5k on the odo.  Of course there's the '68 Camaro RS all original with 90k on the clock sitting next to it.  When are we going to crack open this garage and get the toys out?

2005:  That Ducati is one beautiful bike - I think I have a new lust!

Jared - Is that the 900 with the four into one's?  I always loved that bike!

The CB400F was sweet, but I'd rather have another Yamaha RD350 or 400.

In high school, I had moto-lust for a friend's late 60's Suzuki X6 Hustler. There was also a guy who was dating a girl at my high school
who rode a street legal Harley XR-750, the ONLY HD I've ever had a soft spot for.
To this day it still puzzles me why HD never officially made any street bikes with it's styling.

In '77 when I bought my GS750, there was a Laverda dealer across the street from the Zook shop.
I strolled over there on several occasions to drool on the Jota!
But the bike I wanted most then was either a street legal Yamaha TZ750 or Bimota.

In the 80's, it would have to be a Suzuki RG500 or a Yamaha RZ500.

In the 90's it would have been the Yamaha FZR1000 or the GTS1000.

Yeah, one muffler for each cylinder. I can't believe that guy gave it up for $500. I should have it running like a top by next weekend. I haven't been this excited about anything in years.

Hey, speaking of the old 400s, check this out (potential thread hijack)...

That first CB400f is a 1975 not a 1976.  The second one is a 1976.

1975's had side covers the same color as the tank.

1976 side covers were black.

I had a 1976 red/black CB400f.  What a fun bike.  I put over 20,000 miles on it.  I sold it in 2004 to get my Bandit.

I still love the looks of those pipes.  They are the best looking part of any motorcycle ever made.

The pipes ARE lovely but the whole bike just seems to be in some sort of groove.  You're right about those side panels - don't know why they were black but they did change the colour - thank goodness.

Just for fun I like some of the mid 70's strokers. Mine is a mint (it's in a museum actually) 3000-mile RD400.

One day I might actually ride it!

Sweet RD!  :bigok:
I don't recall ever seeing that particular scheme in the US.

I loved my '75 RD350!!

Yeah - In the mid 70's I had a friend with a T500 Titan back when I was riding a very mellow CB360T. Also had a more insane friend with an H2 750. The Suzuki was able to blow me into the weeds fairly easily and as for the Kawi I think he launched himself into orbit   sometime in '77 cause I haven't seen him since.

I most admired the RD's however - and still like 'em to this day. As for my museum bike, well my last 3 bikes - including the Bandit - have been physically fairly large and I'm not sure at the moment if I'm going to take this one out one day or not...we'll see.

Oh, and the paint scheme on this bike is Canada/Europe. It was not available in the States.
