RIP Larry. I always enjoyed his columns in Rider magazine. I saw him at the motorcycle show in DC in January.

Wow, that really hits hard.  It's bad enough that the Memphis drivers want to kill me, but when someone with that much experience can't be safe, what hope does that leave the rest of us?

Very sad, no amount of experience will help you there.  Deer/Elk freak me out.  I've been riding, doing about 60 mph and I'll see one in the distance on the side of the road.  "Please stay, Bambi!"  These things get real active around dusk/early evening.  I've seen the damage done to cars that have struck these, some have been totaled.  Bad way to go.

That's a damn shame. Always read his column trying to pick up a few tips. Always thought it would fun to take one of his tours.

Just ride with Bobcat... he hits the deer and rides away.    :bigok:

Very startling about Mr. Grodsky. It makes me think, we just need to remember we are all on borrowed time. In the words of Axl Rose " It would'nt be luck if you could get outa life alive"  You never know when it'll be your turn to go, no matter how good a job you think you're doing at avoiding it. People who never rode a motorcycle in their life die in traffic accidents, non-smokers get cancer, seemingly healthy peopl have heart attacks at 40. The best we can do is enjoy the time we get and especially the people we get to spend that time with.

Sorry if I'm a little mushy, I lost my FIL who I was close friends with a few years ago, and now my Dad is in the hospital, getting better but not really . The best thing about riding for me is that anytime I wan't to go back to the good old days and remember my Dad (the way he used to be) I just swing a leg over his 73 Z! 900 and go burn dinosaurs, long after he's gone I'll always have that.

OK, I'm getting depressed now.

Good luck with your dad.  Wish I had mine back.

Sad news indeed! It's a somber wake up call when someone who makes a living teaching others how to safely operate a motorcyle dies in a motorcycle crash. RIP Larry!

I first heard about this on a local news broadcast. I was surprised that they actually aired the story since he is unknown amongst the non-riding public.

I live in a suburb of Chicago that has hundreds of acres of forest preserves.  It's my favorite scenic drive... but this time of year it's scary as hell because almost every day I see 2 or more deer standing with their front hoofs almost on the road.

No natural predators + no hunting = way too many deer for a motorcylist.

Here's a link to an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. According to his girlfriend, he knew it would be a deer that eventually got him!
