Helmet Fit

I have a very good-fitting helmet for my giant noggin.  It's a relatively inexpensive HJC, but it fits my cranium perfectly.  Nice and snug all around, but no headaches after about 15 minutes like my KBC (now my pillion helmet).  I think the KBC is designed for roundish heads, and mine is oblong if you were looking down from above my head

Here's the question for the peanut gallery: is it wrong for my chin to  almost touch the helmet at the chinguard?  If I make like Jay Leno, it touches.  Not a problem now, but in a face plant accident, is this problematic.? I suppose any helmet is going to allow face contact with the inside of the helmet if you land face down.  Whaddya think?

As long as it's not rubbing, I'd say it's OK.
I'd think if anything, this closeness would be safer for your chin since the helmet couldn't pick up as much velocity before making chin contact.
As someone who has made a face plant on the street, chin contact is probably going to happen in this kind of situation... which is much better than your chin making contact with tierra firma. (I used this helmet for years as a example with friends who thought full-face helmets were dumb.)

I think the biggest  safefty factor in 'fit', beyond comfort, is whether the helmet can be pulled from your head with the chinstrap snugged up.

  My HJC SYMAX 'hits' my chin, also, but it otherwise comfortable.  I automatically assume a somewhat 'slack jawed' facial expression when wearing it, but it doesn't bother me anymore.   It's an XXL.
  My XXXL Hjc CL12 fits perfectly, no 'chin' problems.

If you go to a big bike show, or Honda Hoot, you may try on a bunch of helmets, and see if there's one that really fits well, and feels 'good'.

I think the HJC CL-12 and LT-20 are similar helmets.  I may ultimately look for a better helmet down the road, but for now this one does fit well, despite the closeness of my chin to the front.  The KBC is probably a better helmet as far as features go, but just doesn't fit  me right.

The HJC is a noisy bugger, but earplugs take care of that.
