I just talked to Jeff. He's home from the hospital. He was in ICU for 2 days. He has a fractured pelvis, 2 fractured ribs and a broken wrist. All in all, he's doing real well. Said he has no memory of the accident. He's waiting to get the police report to see what any witnesses may have seen.

It could have been much worse.

Fractured pelvis? OUCH! That one may take a while to heal. I was just reading about injuries from bike accidents and "open book" pelvis fractures were listed as a common (and very painful & slow to heal) injury, especially on bikes with sportbike like gas tanks since the tank is what tends to cause the pelvis injury. The article stated this isn't found very often on cruisers or old style UJM bikes that have a flatter seat to tank interface.

Sorry, where I read it wasn't online. It was in the last issue of Motorcycle Consumer News I read before coming over to France.

I love this magazine for it's more mature nature and no-holds-barred attitude towards bikes and related products. They do big shootouts on stuff the average rider probably cares more about than what's the best of the latest repliracers. (They do test them, too.) Shootouts on heated gear, mesh jackets, flip-face helmets, motor oil, chain lubes, etc. (There's a big part of the chain lube FAQ that came from them.) They take no advertisements other than a small ad for a book or two their publishing company puts out on motorcycling (usually related to rider safety). It's a little spendy to subscribe because of the lack of ads and it only comes on copy machine grade paper in black and white. Still worth it though, IMHO. There's rumor they may be going to glossy paper and color pics sometime, but it hasn't happened as of the last issue I read. For the most part, you can only get it through subscription.

I've read both "proficient motorcycling" books and was thinking about subscribing for a long time.  I think you have me convinced now.  :)

Thanks for the word on sportbike-style tanks. Often wondered whether that hump on the Bandit was a good thing or not.

You're close, I'm an aircraft inspector (I moved up from the toolbox shortly after I got my license to wrench on them about 25 years ago - LOL).

I'm here in France doing source inspections on seats built by one of our seat vendors. They happen to be a vendor for Brand X, too - in fact, the Scarebus office is right next door to mine. What I found funny is all their people here are from the UK, so they have to suffer the same language difficulties I do.
