Stupid Deer (crash)
« on: May 18, 2005, 11:27:42 PM »
I had my first get off on the road today. Gettin set up for a right turn and a flippin deer jumps out from the right at the apex of the corner. I jumped on the brakes and started tryin to move away from the deer but it couldn't make up its mind which way it wanted to go and finally moved in the direction it had started so i tried to go behind it. I already had the rear cocked to the left and trying to turn right I lowsided and watched the deer run away as the bike slid behind it. No damage to me cept for a quarter sized spot of MINOR road rash on my right knee thanks to my HJC helmet, First gear jacket and gloves. My jeans had a hole in the right back pocket but just a sore hip bone there.
The bike on the other hand is hurt. Slid on the right side got both sides of the fairing, the tail section, front right turn signal, right side case cover,  ripped the seat, and rashed the the muffler slightly. The structural damage came from the bike stopping against a guard rail post which bent the handle bar down on the left side and dented the tank.
Moral to the story... watch the damned deer and wear your gear.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I know looking at the damage on the bike is painful, I've been there too. The fortunate thing is that you are wise enough to wear protective gear, and walked away basically unscathed. Keep us posted on the bikes rehab.

Sorry to hear you went down and banged up the bike, but happy the personal damage is so minor.

:beers: Here's to a quick healing for both of you.

Damn, that sucks but at least you are ok.  I had an accident myself recently.  Had my pride and joy 1994 Ford F-150 demolished for me in traffic on the highway.  We all stopped but the guy behind me evidently didn't feel the laws of physics applied to him.  It's always different with the bike though.  Hey now you can put an aftermarket exhaust and seat on it.

Yeah once I get the estimates I'm gonna see if I can get aftermarket parts cheaper than factory. Probabally just gonna do that with the exhaust. The insurance is gonna pay for it so as long as its less expensive they should go for it.
