Well I finally did it, must be a confirmed midlife crisis as I just bought the bike I have wanted for the past 15 years. It is a one owner '92 900SS with a clean bill of health. Looking forward to getting to know her and working on my list of mods.

Weather is getting nice in Dallas-82F today, spring is almost here.

Nice Bike! I've always liked Ducatis for the sound and that trellis frame. There's a guy running around my neighborhood with some type of Ducati, I think a Monster, and he has aftermarket pipes. Its the coolest sounding bike I've ever heard. I'm with Paul on the valves, I've heard some stories on the "wow" factor when its adjustment time. What the heck, you only live once!

At least they're just the two valve heads, so there's only 8 adjustments.

Maintence is not that bad

, about $350 for valves-every 6000 miles and $550 for valves/belts- every 12000 miles. I am not gonna mess with it, there is a kick a$$ Ducati shop- Advanced Motorsports in S. Dallas that will be doing the valve work. It is not a daily driver, but a bike that will maybe see 1500 miles a year. It is the first bike I have owned that will appreciate in value with time. The 2nd Generation 900SS bikes- 1991 to 1998 are already going up in value, with the pre 1991 model 900SS bikes fetching $10,000+.

This sweatheart has only 16,000 miles and is fitted with 41 Keihin FCR flatslides, modified exhaust, and an aluminum flywheel. It goes like a scalded cat from 3500-8000 rpm and weighs less than 400 lbs dry. It is an absolute purist machine, very small and highly flickable. The Brembo brakes are fantastic. I need to get the suspension tuned for my weight and fit carbon pipes and race rubber.

It is a bike I have always wanted, but could never afford. Looks like my trusty B12 has a stablemate. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with the '83 GS750ED.

They have an 02 ST4 for sell in Baton Rouge at a Yamahonda dealer ship.Some one traded it in on a CBR or something. They can't seem to sell it. They said they book value is $13,000 but they would take $6900 luggage included. It's got 22,000 miles on it but it sure is tempting.

No, I have not been on any Dallas rides. Not from a lack of effort though. I travel for a living, spending on average about 15 overnights a month away. I missed the last few group rides due to schedule conflicts. My traveling and fair weather riding requirements are the main reason I only ride 1500-2000 miles a year.

I think the Ducati is probably too maintence intensive to make an effective sport-tourer, ie the ST4. Kinda like putting 20,000 miles a year on a Ferrari. The Ducati niche is as a hard edged sport bike with personality that only sees part time use. That is why I bought the 900SS.
