Figures... I have AS(s) for home and auto - tried to get a bike quote and my agent said he couldn't come close to anyone. At least he referred me to a local guy who specialized in bikes.

They are the "AAMCO" of insurance companies. I have been cursed with contact with them a few times - they will never get a penney from me in premiums, even if it were to cost me more to go elsewhere. And regardless of what you may hear, they are no friends of anyone on two wheels. :monkeymoon:
I always envision the "good hands" with the middle fingers extended.

Try State Farm, they are by far the cheapest for me. and have always handled claims w/o any issues

ditto!

Have y'all tried out progressive for a quote? That's who I have. They seem pretty reasonable to me. I 've heard more than a few nightmare stories about Allstate. I wouldn't let them insure a used condom. They are notoriuos for finding B\S reasons for not paying up.

I know insurance rates depend a lot on where you live, but I just renewed my policy with Dairyland. I have 2 bikes insured. '02 Bandit 1200S full-coverage and an '04 Yamaha YZF-R1 liability only. My premium for a year is $480.00.

I have heard that State Farm does not insure motorcycles by the class that they fit into. So with that being said, they will insure any motorcycle. The catch is, that they set their rates by the size of the bike. What that means to all of us is that a GSXR1000R is cheaper to insure than a 2007 Bandit 1250s. Go figure...Bandit1250s... :burnout:

FWIW - Allstate insured my ZX6R earlier this month. They were resonably competitive with Progressive and Geico and I'm aquaintences with the agent so I wanted to give her the biz if I could.

+1 for Dairyland Insurance.
I've delt with Allstate ( auto, home, life ) for over 30 years but when it came to my 1250 they wanted 980.00 a year.
Shopped around and gieco, progressive etc where about the same.
The bike shop I deal with has an onsite insurance agent that is an independent. She ran my numbers thru about 6 diferent companies and Dairyland came in @ just over 400.00 a year. They also insure upto 3,000.00 dollars worth of bling etc that i may add to the bike without jacking up the premium.
I havent ever filed a claim and hope not to ever have too, but if it were not for them I certainly wouldnt be riding.

I've had Allstate for years on my car, and carried my FZR under them for a year as well. Then they decided to base their rates off your credit score as well. At the time my credit was in the crapper, so my rates nearly tripled when they made their "revisions" to motorcycle policies.
Told them to piss off after that. I told them that was great that some dumbass squid who's daddy buys him everything can get a better rate than me even though I'm a safe rider.
Insurance is one of the biggest scams in the history of the world....

I keep shopping around, but end up doing best with GEICO. I've had car claims, but never bike claims, and have always been happy with their process.

I've been thinking about switching my car over to Geico as well. Never had a claim with them for the bikes, but have always been impressed with the service I've gotten from them. I'm tired of paying that damned actor's salary for Allstate anyway

The best prices I found on bike insurance is from here:
http://www.cycleinsure.com/
Here is where they cover:
http://www.cycleinsure.com/FreeQuotes.html
Ask for Rick and please tell him Bill Johnson sent you.
I carry 5 bikes with CA minimums and only pay $120.00 a year for the five bikes. I figure for the price of full coverage, I could put the money away and fix any crash damage myself.

State farm has my bandit as exempt or some other class, then by CC's. It doens't cost more to insure a bandit. I pay a couple bucks a month for mine. Heck, I got a check in the mail a couple of months ago that paid over a months insurance for my truck and bike for paying out dividends or something. How often have you got a check back from your insurance company without something being wrong?
